Take on two of the most infamous peaks in the Alps and spend a week climbing up Mont Blanc and Gran Paradiso! Experience the magnificence of both France and Italy with a mountaineering trip for the ages!

Mont Blanc (4,810m) is the highest point in the Alps, and is a top destination for any traveler looking for a heart-pumping adventure. Located near the border with Italy, it has been a historic landmark throughout history. It is ranked eleventh in the world in prominence, and is the highest mountain in Europe west of the Caucasus.

Gran Paradiso (4,061m) is just as impressive, and is the only mountain located solely in Italy with a peak over 4,000 meters. Like Mont Blanc, it is part of the Graian Alps, and is considered a more forgiving climb in the region. During the summer months, there are incredible views of the other mountains in the region, including picturesque flora and fauna.

Their prominence and proximity have made these mountains stand out over the years. Nearby Chamonix at the foot of Mont Blanc hosted the first Olympics in 1924. This area is one of the most notable locations in the world for mountaineering.

Our program immerses you in every wonderful aspect of these majestic peaks. Just outside of Chamonix is our home chalet, in the Swiss town of Finhaut. This allows us access to the best hikes and climbs in the valley, all of which will prepare us for our two exciting summits.

By starting with Gran Paradiso, we will be able to acclimitize ourselves to the Alps before taking on the taller Mont Blanc. We will also ascend the peak via the Tete Rousse and Gouter route, which has fewer risks and a higher chance of success. We will also have more flexibility regarding weather, as we are planning a three-day approach to the summit.

You will have a chance to hike on this expedition, and you will also mix rock and ice climbing as you make your way to the top. This is a sustained trip, and you should be in good shape to undertake it. A high level of fitness and any previous mountaineering experience are required for this program, as we will be hiking and climbing anywhere from six hours to 12 hours a day.

Book this week-long mountaineering program NOW and discover Mont Blanc and Gran Paradiso in a whole new way!

We can also take a week to just focus on ascending Mont Blanc. Or if you are really feeling ambitious, let´s head to Canada for the ultimate off-piste and heliskiing experience!

We will be staying in mountain huts throughout the region, and at a private chalet in the valley.

The guide reserves the right to adjust and / or alter the trip to ensure the safety and satisfaction of the program.

More info

The group size will not exceed six (6) participants, with a guide ratio of 2:1 for the summit ascent(s). If required, we will adapt the program to the weather as necessary.

Meeting point

We will be meeting at Finhaut.

Day 0: Welcome to Finhaut

We will get settled in at our chalet accommodations.

Day 1: Bel Oiseau

We will begin our program by going over the itinerary and equipment before making an acclimitization hike to nearby Bel Oiseau. Here we will have the chance to practice our climbing technique and prepare for the week ahead.

The rest of the afternoon will be free to visit Chamonix and get accustomed to the mountains.

Day 2: Chabod Hut

A car ride through the Mont Blanc tunnel will lead us into Italy, and we will head for the Chabod Hut to practice our climbing techniques and abilities.

Day 3: Gran Paradiso (4,061m)

This glacial day trip includes an easy ridge of roughly 100 meters to Gran Paradiso, with amazing views. We will return to the valley for a night at the chalet in preparation of our ascent of Mont Blanc.

Day 4: Tete Rousse Hut (3,167m)

After traveling by car to Les Houches, we transfer via train and lift to a steep hike, starting from Nid d´Aigle and heading to our refuge accommodation at Tete Rousse Hut.

Day 5: Gouter Hut (3,817m)

Under the professional direction of the guides, we make the steep climb to the Gouter Hut. This part of the climb has some technical and challenging parts, and we will traverse the difficult ´Grand Couloir.´

Day 6: Mont Blanc (4,810m)

Our summit day begins early, and we will take 3 – 5 hours to make it to the top. After taking in the peak, we will return to the valley over the course of a long and sustained descent.

Day 7: Depart from Finhaut

We will leave the program after a week of making incredible memories!

About the guide

guide profile img

In 1987 I became a certified mountain guide after an intense four-year training program at the Technical University of Munich, thus becoming the first guide from the Netherlands to be IFMGA-certified and probably worldwide one of the first guides not originating from an alpine country. As a guide, I do everything from beginner courses in the Alps to worldwide climbing expeditions to the Seven Summits.

Based in Switzerland, just a few kilometers from the French town of Chamonix, I offer customized programs, tailor-made for each of my clients. As an alpinist and mountain guide, I’ve participated in many succesful expeditions, including Mt. Everest (north and south sides), Cho Oyu and Shisha Pangma (Tibet), Aconcagua (Argentina), Yerupaja South Face and Huascaran (Peru), Ojos del Salado (Chile), Mt Hunter and Denali (Alaska), Elbrus (Russia) Carstensz Pyramid (West Papoua) and Kilimanjaro (Tanzania). I’ve led two UIAA expeditions for talented young climbers: one in China and one in Pakistan. Both were very successful and led to the opening of some new (and sometimes difficult) routes. I’m always looking for new and challenging ski areas and, in recent years, have specialized in ski safaris and ski touring in the Alps, Morocco, Canada, Chile and Scandinavia. Adventure skiing is my passion since a long time and the challenge is to find the best snow and safe skiing and have fun with the group in a remote location. A father of 2, in my spare time, I like to go skiing, mountain biking and climbing with friends and family.
