Description

Avalanches are by far the most dangerous feature when skiing or riding backcountry terrain. Come join us on this 3-day course at Bell Lake Yurt to learn the first notions on how to avoid risks!

This 3-day course will take place in the incredible surroundings of Bell Lake Yurt, which is located 2.6 miles into the deep and wild Tobacco Root Range, in southwest Montana.  It takes about 3 hours of skinning to get there and it’s a paradise for outdoors lovers.

Once there we’ll set our stuff in and start focusing on your avalanche education outside. Basically, what you’ll learn is how to recognize and assess avalanche hazards using responsible information to make the best possible decision. We offer personalized attention by one of our highly trained guides.

Some of this course’s main features are:

  • Basic avalanche terminology

  • Recognizing avalanche terrain

  • Avalanche transceiver use and rescue skills

  • Travel procedures in avalanche terrain

  • Weather assessment

  • Interpreting the avalanche forecast bulletin

  • Tour planning

  • Field observations of terrain and snowpack

Does this course sound interesting? Then please send us a request and let’s plan your itinerary together.

And if you already have some avalanche training and wish to try a different outdoors experience, please check our 4-day ski touring in Yellowstone National Park.
