Immerse yourself in the wild beauty of Patagonia on a three-day trekking adventure through El Chaltén and Los Glaciares National Park. Over the course of this journey, you’ll explore classic viewpoints and hidden corners, crossing the Fitz Roy River on a zipline and hiking along steep, rugged trails that lead to Agachonas Pass and Loma del Pliegue Tumbado. From this rarely visited area, sweeping views reveal Cerro Torre and the vast valleys carved by the Fitz Roy and Túnel rivers.
Each day brings a new perspective on the region’s raw magnificence. The ascent to Laguna de los Tres offers a stunning close-up of Mount Fitz Roy and the emerald waters of Laguna Sucia. At sunset, the reflection of Cerro Torre over Laguna Torre paints the landscape in fiery tones of orange and pink. Nights are spent under the stars in our exclusive Comfort Camp, surrounded by the silence and serenity of pure wilderness.
As the route climbs toward Agachonas Pass and Loma del Pliegue Tumbado, you’ll pass through untouched terrain and unmarked paths, with the vast Glaciar Grande gleaming below. It’s a journey that blends adventure and solitude — an intimate encounter with Patagonia’s most iconic peaks and its wild, untamed spirit.
Meeting point
We leave El Chaltén by car, following the Río de las Vueltas to our starting point, about 17 km away. From there, we begin our hike along a scenic trail that winds through the lenga forest, following the Río Blanco (White River) toward the Fitz Roy Comfort Camp. Along the way, we’ll pause to learn about the flora and fauna typical of the Patagonian Andean forest and visit the stunning Piedras Blancas (White Rocks) viewpoint. Here, we can admire the Piedras Blancas Glacier and its remarkable glacial features, including erratic boulders and lateral moraines left behind as the ice has receded over recent decades. Throughout the hike, we’ll enjoy ever-changing views of the Fitz Roy mountain range, culminating in our final destination for the day — the magnificent Laguna de los Tres. This unforgettable spot offers the most iconic view of Cerro Fitz Roy and one of the most breathtaking panoramas in all of Patagonia.
After breakfast, we leave Cerro Fitz Roy behind and head toward a beautiful valley of rolling hills and the Madre e Hija (Mother and Daughter) lagoons. We’ll have plenty of time to pause for photos, and with a bit of luck, we may even spot a small group of Cauquenes often seen in this area. The trail continues through forests of Lenga and Ñire trees and over a wide moraine before reaching our destination — Laguna Torre (Tower Lake). Here we’ll stop for lunch while taking in the spectacular views of the Cerro Torre range and Glaciar Grande (Big Glacier). If weather conditions permit, we’ll continue hiking toward the Maestri Viewpoint for the closest view of Glaciar Grande. This lookout is named after the controversial Italian climber Cesare Maestri, who once planned his strategies for scaling one of the world’s most challenging peaks from this very spot. When we’re ready, we’ll descend slightly to our home for the night — the Comfort Camp Laguna Torre — and settle in for the evening. If the sunset looks promising, we’ll return to Laguna Torre to watch the colors unfold across the sky.
We’ll rise early for an intense yet unforgettable final day of hiking. To kick things off, we’ll get the adrenaline flowing with a zip-line crossing over the roaring Río Fitz Roy — an exhilarating way to shake off any lingering sleep! Once safely on the other side, we’ll follow the trail across another moraine and into a forest, noticing how the trees gradually become smaller as we gain altitude. The steep ascent to Paso de las Agachonas is demanding, but the reward is more than worth it: breathtaking views of Cerro Torre and Glaciar Grande unfold before us. Here, the fierce Patagonian wind will likely greet us, offering a taste of the strength and chill it’s known for. As we face the elements, we’ll be treated to a sweeping panorama of the Fitz Roy and Cerro Torre ranges, Paso del Viento (Windy Pass), and—weather permitting—even the snow-covered peaks of the Southern Patagonian Icefield. This is one of the park’s least-visited viewpoints, ensuring truly unique photographs to remember your adventure. From this point, we’ll begin our descent toward El Chaltén via Loma del Pliegue Tumbado, closing our journey with stunning views and a deep sense of accomplishment.

Mountain Guide
I graduated in Buenos Aires as Universitary proffesional in tourism and as a Mountain Guide in Mendoza province. I started working in adventure activities, horseback riding and mountain ascents. Then i moved to Patagonia that was my dream place for living and thanks to this profession it became in my place for working and personal development.
After several years of experience working in these mountains and numerous trips around the world looking for adventures and experience, I managed to unite both professions in an objective, so Serac Expeditions arose. In the last 15 years working with Serac, I have organized trips for thousands of people and personally guided hundreds of them in diverse and remote places in Patagonia, Chile, Peru and Bolivia.
Today my passion is not only guiding but also organizing special and personalized trips for people who enjoy exploring in nature and at the same time push their limits. My ideal is to provide a safe trip, spend a good time togheter with my clients and be flexible to provide a great experience and memories. To do this I work with a group of guides that share my ideals and way of working.

Explore Share - Set me up with Serac Operations - so an excellent 5day traverse - challenging at times (with a fairly full pack)! Perfect Autumnm weather. Serac provided an excellent very experienced guide - Matias Passerano - and he did a great job.

Our trip to Patagonia was a once in a lifetime opportunity that checked off all the boxes! We had excellent guides, the accommodation was perfect and each day was more beautiful than the last. Explore-Share ensured we connected with the appropriate people whenever we had questions and the customer service was 5 star!
This was a great trek. The organization by and support from the Serac team was top notch. I reserved well in advance and the communications I received before my trip were always clear and timely. Once I arrived in EL Chalten, everything was smooth. Hostels were arranged and the team arrived to walk us through the trek. The guides were knowledgeable and helpful, the trek was challenging but the views were rewarding. Highlights were camping in "iceberg bay" and the hike up to Paso del Viento. The shuttle back to El Chalten was timely and even came with a complimentary beer! The trek is tough so not for the mentally unprepared.
My husband and I had a great experience with Serac - we did the El Chalten Mountain Escape trek and it was fantastic. Our guide (Christian) was very knowledgeable and kind; food was excellent and they even had wine portered to our campsites each night. All in all, highly recommended!
I first saw the opportunity to trek the South Patagonia Icefield when I was in El Chalten 3 years ago. I finally took the plunge this year and signed up with Serac Expeditions for their late-February departure - best decision ever! The Expedition itself is incredible! Only about 100 people/year undertake it so you get to see a part of Patagonia that few others have experienced. And of course the scenery is amazing. I won't lie - the expedition is challenging (especially for a relatively small female), but if you go in with reasonable fitness and the right mental attitude, it is totally doable and absolutely worth it. It also helps when you have decent weather :) Serac Expeditions are wonderful! They are very responsive and helpful throughout the whole process of arranging the trek, provide excellent equipment, and work with incredible guides (million thanks Juan and Rafa - you guys are awesome!). They also include some special surprises along the way, but you'll have to sign up yourself or read my blog posts to find out what ;) 100% recommend Serac Expeditions and this trek. I am now wanting to return to do the Marconi - Estancia Cristina expedition with them, but this time at the start of the season (November) to experience the Icefield with snowshoes rather than crampons.
Stay up-to-date on the best adventures.
