Unlike Everest, or other iconic peaks in the Himalayas, Mt Putha Himchuli offers a more intimate ascent, less crowded and with views equally mesmerizing.
Mt. Putha lies in the western flank of the Himalayan range in Nepal. And it is north west of the world’s seven highest mountain Dhualgiri (8,167m). It is also known as Dhaulagiri VII, as it inhabits a remote area in the Dhaulagiri Range.
The region in Dhaulagiri has an incredible biodiversity, with unique animal and plants. It also guards some of the most ancient traditions and rich culture.
Mt. Putha Himchuli is not only incredibly rich in nature, it also has a very interesting history. James Roberts and Nepali Ang Nima Sherpa were the first ones to conquer it. Ever since, only those adventurous and willing to put in the time and effort to reach its summit, have been able to stand at its top. And you can be one of them!
The northeast and north side offer less technical difficulties. Thus, we’ll tackle the ascent from this side. Although, over all, this mountain is considered one of the most accessible and straight forward, within the 7,000 range of peaks.
So we’ll begin with a short flight to the city of Nepalgunj, and then Juphal in the Dolpo area. After that, we’ll begin our trek up to the Putha Huichuli Base Camp (4,960m). There, we’ll cross the Tarakot and German Base Camp. Finally, we’ll use the northeast ridge to reach the summit of Mt. Putha Himchuli.

Arrival to Kathmandu and greetings.
We’ll explore Kathmandu, sightseeing and learning about the local culture. Thus, we’ll visit places like the world biggest Stupa: Boudhhanath, also known as little Tibet. We’ll also visit the sacred Hindu temple of Pashupati Nath. Then, we’ll go to the Kathmandu Durbar Square and the Swoyambhunath Stupa (monkey temple). Finally we’ll visit the virgin Kumari known as Living Goddess in Basantapur.
This day will be for shopping and preparing all the equipment. Meanwhile, our team will prepare all the permits and papers. Then, in the evening we’ll have a meeting to discuss all the final details.
On this day you’ll enjoy one of the most scenic flights on Earth! We’ll fly to Nepalgunj, a very unique city with Indian influenced culture in the middle of the mountains.
We will begin with yet another scenic flight to Juphal. We’ll fly over the Himalayas with incredible views of Annapurna and Dhaulagiri. Upon arrival we’ll trek towards Dunai.
On this day we’ll depart from Dunai, following the river of Thuli Bheri. And we will trek across incredible landscapes towards Tarakot.
We’ll depart from Tarakot. Then, we will follow a charming river that will take us through wonderful places, until we reach Mushi Khola.
After a delicious breakfast we’ll keep following the river towards a narrow gorge. Then, you’ll notice a change in the climate and the vegetation of the place. After trekking across these amazing lands we’ll reach Kakot.
Upon arrival at Kakot we’ll explore this beautiful village, and stay for the day for acclimatization.
We will head towards German Base Camp, which we’ll reach after a 5 hour trek.
On this day we will reach Mt. Putha Base Camp, and we’ll get to explore its surroundings.
We’ll use this day for acclimatization. So we’ll spend the day preparing. Hence I’ll teach you some techniques and skills to get you ready for the adventure ahead.
Because this area has an unpredictable weather, we’ll stay at base camp as much as its needed. After the necessary time here, we’ll head to Camp I (5,300m). Then, we’ll continue our ascent to Camp II (5,900M). Finally we’ll move towards Camp III (6,300m). And after taking in all the beauty of the surroundings, we’ll commence our descent. Please note that at this altitude you’ll need an oxygen mask to reach the top.
Since more and more expeditions and treks occur in this region, more garbage and waste is produced. So as an effort to reduce contamination, we’ll use this day to clean base camp, and packing for our journey back.
We’ll begin our descent retracing our steps back to Kakot.
Then, we’ll head back to Mushi Khola.
On this day, we will trek towards Juphal.
We will take a short flight to Nepalgunj. Then we’ll take another one to Kathmandu.
This day, will be the last one of our adventure. However you’ll still have some time to walk around Kathmandu and learn more about this magical place.
Finally, we’ll take you to the airport so you can catch your flight back home.
