Rising like a majestic pyramid in Kanagawa Prefecture, Mt. Oyama has been a site of spiritual significance for centuries. During the Edo period, it drew over 200,000 worshippers each year, making it one of Japan’s most revered mountains.
Today, hikers can explore its serene trails, visit the historic Oyama Afuri Shrine, and enjoy breathtaking views of the surrounding Tanzawa Mountains and even Mount Fuji on clear days.
We’ll meet in the morning at Isehara Station (Odakyu Line, about 1 hour from Shinjuku). From there, we’ll travel together by bus or taxi to Mt. Oyama Station and take the scenic cable car up to Shimosha at 650 meters. From Shimosha, we’ll embark on a 2-hour hike to the summit of Mt. Oyama, enjoying the beautiful surroundings along the way, before descending back to Shimosha, which will take approximately another 2 hours.

Toru san took us on the most memorable trek up Fuji san. My husband wanted to climb Fuji on his 40th birthday and Toru made it extra special, he even made a cake for him when we reached the summit! Most importantly we felt safe and prepared. It was technically off season so we wanted to have a guide so we felt comfortable, he told us exactly what to prepare for and what to bring. It was challenging, but unforgettable.
