Mount Fuji is not only the tallest mountain in Japan with an outstanding 3,776 meters, it is also one of the most recognizable landmarks in the country and is deeply ingrained in the country's national identity as a symbol of its natural beauty.
Our ascent of this iconic peak, along with our overnight stay, will allow us to fully savor the experience of this iconic mountain.Due to the high altitude, we will walk above the tree line and be treated to breathtaking vistas of the town, lakes and even the Pacific Ocean below.
Mount Fuji is located at a 1.5 hr. drive away from Tokyo. I will pick you up at your hotel around the Kawaguchiko area and we will drive up to the starting point. If you have your own transfer, we can meet at the parking lot at the bottom of Mount Fuji in the morning.
*Due to the road restrictions, we will take a taxi from the parking to the 5th station during the peak season (JUL to AUG). The taxi costs about 15,000yen. per one way.
After getting our gear in order and preparing ourselves for the upcoming adventure, we embark on our ascent of this iconic mountain. It will take us around 4 to 5 hours to reach the mountain hut. At this point of the climb we will have already ascended well above the tree line at an elevation of approximately 2,700 meters (8,858 feet).
We will then arrive at a small cluster of huts where we'll be able to rest, debrief and enjoy dinner. In order to witness the sunrise at the summit, we will have to start our ascent very early in the morning.
After our triumphant climb we will then be rewarded as we admire the sun slowly rising from the summit, casting its warm glow over the surrounding landscape, illuminating the jagged peaks of the Japan Alps in the distance. We will also have the option of traversing across the awe-inspiring crater at the summit known as Fujinomiya where you'll be able to get a glimpse into the volatile geological forces that shaped this iconic mountain.
We will be back to the parking lot early afternoon where I will take you back to your hotel in the Kawaguchiko area or to the train station around Mt. Fuji.

What level of fitness do I need for this trip?
Climbing Mount Fuji requires a moderate level of physical fitness. The hike to the summit involves walking on steep and rocky terrain, and the high altitude can make breathing more difficult. You should be able to walk for several hours without getting too tired and be comfortable with ascending and descending steep slopes.
How can I prepare for this trip?
We recommend preparing with aerobic exercise in the weeks before your climb. Activities like hiking, stair climbing, jogging, or regular cardio workouts will help improve stamina and make the ascent more enjoyable.
Is the Mt Fuji climb difficult?
The 2-day Mt Fuji climb and overnight stay is moderate but involves altitude, volcanic gravel, and several hours of continuous hiking. Anyone with regular fitness and hiking experience can complete it.
Can beginners climb Mt Fuji?
Beginners with good fitness can join the 2-day guided climb, but prior experience walking on uneven terrain is recommended.
What should I pack for an overnight Mt Fuji climb?
Warm layers, waterproof jacket, gloves, headlamp, hiking boots, snacks, and 1–1.5 L water. The hut provides bedding and meals.
Why is it better to climb Mt Fuji with an overnight stay?
Sleeping in an authentic mountain hut at 2,700 m offers better acclimatization, making summit day easier and safer. It also allows you to reach the top before the crowds and enjoy a calmer, more meaningful sunrise experience.
What makes this guided Mt Fuji climb different from other options?
This experience includes a private certified guide who manages pacing, safety, and weather decisions. You also get flexible pick-up options around Kawaguchiko and the possibility to add an optional crater tour at the summit—an unforgettable highlight.
Which trail do we use for the Mt Fuji climb and overnight stay?
This ascent usually follows the Fujinomiya Trail, one of Mt Fuji’s shortest and most direct routes to the summit. It offers excellent sunrise timing and access to mountain huts around 2,700 m, making it ideal for a 2-day guided climb with an overnight stay.
Is altitude sickness common on Mt Fuji?
Mt Fuji reaches 3,776 m, so some hikers may feel mild symptoms such as headache or fatigue. The overnight stay at 2,700 m improves acclimatization and reduces the risk. Your certified guide also sets a safe pace and monitors how each participant adapts to the altitude.
Is it cold during the overnight stay in the Mt Fuji mountain hut?
Yes. Even in summer, temperatures at the huts can drop close to freezing at night. The hut provides bedding, but you should bring warm layers, a hat, gloves, and a windproof jacket to stay comfortable throughout the night.

Yuichi was a fantastic guide! I would highly recommend him. Guided us on our climb of Mt Fuji and everything was seamless. During our planning, he responded promptly to any questions I had which made the us better prepared for the experience. He was knowledgeable about not only the climb, but everything we saw on the way up and down. He was thoughtful and patient, changing our pace to faster or slower depending on our needs. I would give him more stars if I were able:)

We didn't expect the hut was a mix with male. They shld have separate the female n male instead of sleeping side by side. It's so uncomfortable. No privacy too. Our guide Yuichi was very patient, kind and caring. Thanks for guiding us up and down safely. We didn't reached the summit as my daughter was too sick and tired. It's ok as we have a lots of fun and enjoy the climb. Thanks once again.
Stay up-to-date on the best adventures.
