Description

Set out on a guided hiking adventure through one of Iceland’s most breathtaking mountain regions. Tailored for seasoned hikers, this full-day trek combines physical challenge with awe-inspiring scenery—glaciers, volcanic ridges, and endless views await.

Starting near the national park visitor centre, the trail winds through a variety of landscapes: peaceful birch woodlands, exposed highlands, and rugged ridgelines. A highlight along the way is Svartifoss, a striking waterfall framed by dramatic basalt columns.

As you gain elevation, the terrain opens up to sweeping vistas—towering glaciers, volcanic peaks, and the black sand plains that stretch all the way to the Atlantic Ocean. Depending on weather and group pace, the route may lead toward a summit ridge or linger at spectacular viewpoints en route.

The 18 km circular hike includes around 1,215 meters of elevation gain and typically takes 6 to 8 hours to complete. It’s a demanding route, recommended only for hikers in top physical condition.

The hike together with group was super nice and fun with lots of laughter. We had all what Iceland could offer - snow, ice, rain, wind, sun, dramatically beautiful nature and delicious food. Our guide Ágúst was super! He has a lot of energy and knowledge. Additionally he is a good people person and very good cook. I enjoyed the 5 day hike in Laugavegur together with group very much and would recommend it to anyone!
