Backcountry powder skiing tour in Furano & Otaru, Japan (10 days)

Situated in between the Yubari Mountain Range and Daisetsuzan National Park on Japan’s northern Hokkaido Island, Furano and Otaru offer immaculate backcountry skiing opportunities.

The area has hosted various world cup ski races over the years and boasts some of the best deep powder terrains on the entire island, including open powder bowls and deep tree runs.

Over the course of our 10 days together, we will head out and explore various steep slopes in and around Furano as well as Otaru, which is just two hours to the west.

We will likely try to spend five days skiing in each spot, but this may change depending on how the group feels and the weather conditions. Either way, get ready for pristine and untracked runs down steep slopes through incredible scenery.

Regardless of where we are, we will be sure to enjoy the plentiful and amazing powder. Due to the island’s unique location, huge amounts of dry and light powder, the perfect king for backcountry skiing, fall throughout the season.

Otaru receives some of the largest amounts of snow anywhere in the world, with average snowpacks of 15 meters and more.

When we are not skiing, we will be sure to enjoy some of the island’s culture, especially its food. Enjoy the lively atmosphere of the area in which we are based and learn a little something about this amazing part of Japan.
