The terrain of western Algarve is an excellent mix of coastal, mountain and inland landscape. A complete contrast to the eastern region, here you’ll find granitic mountains and dramatic limestone slopes.
The trip has a lot to offer. It will be enriching to explore the rich plant and animal life of the region as we traverse its varied landscape. The trail leads onto the coast of Algarve with its pristine sandy beaches and rugged strips of land. Here, you’ll sight the spectacular rock formations of Ponta da Piedade just outside the town of Lagos.
We’ll begin in the port city of Portimão and walk towards Silves, one of the oldest towns in Portugal. It is a beautiful town built in a series of terraces between the castle and the river. From Silves, we will enjoy a walk in the verdant hills to the north of the town.
The next day will be spent walking around the small town of Monchique which offers fantastic views of the neighboring cliffs. You’ll notice the wide-ranging vegetation of the region as you walk past orchards of olives, oranges and other citrus fruits. The trail further leads to some typical Algarvian villages, where you’ll get a chance to see the age-old lifestyle of natives.
Our final stop is the Parque Natural da Costa Vicentina, a south-westerly point of Europe abundant in birdlife.

Thank you explore-share for a wonderful via feratta experience. We have been wanting to learn for a long time but don't have the facilities in Scotland. The guide Mitja was extremely helpful and knowledgeable, answering all my many questions and providing advice. On the day head to take another group but he quickly arranged another guide Borut, who was brilliant. We had a fantastic morning learning via ferrata at Hvadnik in the gorge. It gave us the confidence to later hire our own equipment and go out in Mojstrana. Altogether a five star + experience. Thank you.
Stay up-to-date on the best adventures.
