Take a holiday to Portugal’s incredibly scenic West Algarve region and explore all of its natural beauty and wonder yourself on an 8-day self-guided tour!

We’ve taken care of all the arrangement and left you with a thorough and detailed itinerary, so all you need to do is relax and enjoy yourself!

Each day, you will head out to a designated starting point and walk for an average of 11 kilometers, exploring fields, forests, coastal cliffs, estuaries, beaches, pastures and idyllic towns along the way.

Every day is slightly different, so you will really get the opportunity to discover this diverse part of northern Portugal for yourself.

Among the many highlights are hiking by Portugal’s most photographed beach, through a National Forest and seeing traditional villages dotting the countryside.

Each night, you will return to the lovely hotel and enjoy all of its modern conveniences as well as have the chance to sample local cuisine in the restaurant.

Located in the middle of Lagos, you will also have the time to explore and experience this lovely coastal town too.

Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival

Arrive at the airport in Faro and transfer to Lagos.

Day 2: Praia da Luz to Lagos

Take a taxi to Praia da Luz and make the 11-kilometer walk back atop marvelous sea cliffs to Lagos. On the way, stop in Porto de Mós and Ponta da Piedade too if you have the chance.

Day 3: Barão de S. João to Barão S. Miguel

Take a taxi to Barão de S. João and make the 9-kilometer walk through area’s national forest and rolling landscape until you reach the traditional village of Barão S. Miguel. After you’ve explored the village return by taxi or bus to Lagos.

Day 4: Free day

Spend the day exploring wherever you like. There’s plenty to do from sun bathing to bird watching.

Day 5: Vale da Lama Walk

Take a taxi to the start of the walk and make a 13.5 kilometer walk along coastline and through the Alvar estuary.

Day 6: Rocha Delicada to Mexilhoeira Grande

Take a taxi to Rocha Delicada and then hike 8 kilometers through a wide array of landscaped until you reach the traditional village of Mexilhoeira Grande. Take some time to explore the village before returning to Lagos by train.

Day 7: Bensafrim walk

Travel to Bensafrim by taxi and make a 14-kilometer loop through rolling landscapes complete with forest, fields of wildflowers and much more. After returning to Bensafrim, come back to Lagos by bus.

Day 8: Departure

Transfer back to the airport.

Thank you explore-share for a wonderful via feratta experience. We have been wanting to learn for a long time but don't have the facilities in Scotland. The guide Mitja was extremely helpful and knowledgeable, answering all my many questions and providing advice. On the day head to take another group but he quickly arranged another guide Borut, who was brilliant. We had a fantastic morning learning via ferrata at Hvadnik in the gorge.
