Half-day Hike along the Waiho River to the Franz Josef Glacier

Join me on a half-day hike along the Waiho River to the Franz Josef Glacier, and discover the legends, history and amazing beauty of this spectacular glacier,  located in the Westland Tai Poutini National Park, on the western coast of New Zealand’s South Island. 

This unique and steep glacier offers an easy acess, being located in a temperate rain forest. The walk will take us about 3 hours, and it is suitable for children from 6 years old. In fact, this hiking tour is perfect for those who prefer to avoid walking directly on the ice, as it takes us through the valley.

I will guide you on a path through stunning waterfalls and a green and ancient rainforest, along the Waiho river. After a short climb you will be amazed by spectacular views of the ever changing terminal face of the glacier.

This walk takes us through a truly unique landscape. We will follow an ancient path where the glacier stood many years ago. Along the way, we will have the opportunity to see watch and learn about the fauna and flora of this area.
