Enjoy an unforgettable hiking day in the Trnovo Plateau with UIMLA mountain leader Dean. These lands in Slovenia offer unique landscapes, pits and ice caves.
I invite you to a hiking day around unique geometric forms and the unspoiled nature of the beautiful Trnovo plateau, 90 minutes away from Liubliana, Slovenia’s capital.
This karstic plateau in the northwestern part of the powerful Dinaric mountain range is free of running water and broken down by enclosed houses, hills, wells and abysses.
During this trek, we will explore ice and snow caves, which are peculiar formations resulting from the karst phenomena. And you will feel the “Bora wind”, a typical wind here, that descends from the plateau towards the sea.
The steep slopes of the Trnovo plateau represent a challenge for hikers. However it is an accesible hike. If you come during the summer, you could discover many forest paths hidden among the tree trunks. You can also go cycling here.
In winter instead, the plateau offers ideal conditions for winter activities, such us winter hiking, diving and cross-country skiing. On weekends you can also visit or spend a night at the Iztok Mountain Hut, beneath the Golak Mountains or in the Anton Bavčer’s Hut, Čaven.
These peaks range from 1,200 to almost 1,500 meters of altitude. From the summit of Mali Golak, the highest one with 1,495 meters, you can enjoy the most beautiful views of Slovenia, Mount Triglav and large part of the Julian Alps, with the Trieste Gulf below.
So, if you are willing to hike around this wonderful natural land please contact me. You won’t regret it!
I also lead a hiking trip in the Kanin mountains. Please check out this trip here.

Dean was very helpful and responsive to our enquiries. He was enthusiastic and devoted to show the prettiest side of Tre Cime to us. Although we were a bit behind, Dean was patient to wait for us and cater to our speed. Great experience!!

Dean is an excellent guide. He\'s friendly and conscientious and throughout or trip was focused on getting us to achieve our hiking goals while being aware of our abilities and experience. We chose a relatively tough hike (8hrs, 1,700m elevation gain) but Dean made sure we completed it safely and at a good pace. He also took photos throughout so we could concentrate on the hiking and shared them with us later. He was also good company on the hike. I would thoroughly recommend his services.

We were looking for a hike suitable for 4 adults with reasonable experience in hiking.Dean not only crafted a 5 day activity for us but was also able to adjust for routes to fit our needs during the hike itself. Dean proved to be a great guide with both knowledge and an amazing attitude and was simply so much fun to be with, Dean also went \'the extra mile\' for us taking some of us to special activities which we did not plan for. If you are looking for hiking in Slovenia and getting an experience of a life time - I would highly recommend Dean. 5 starts all the way (And if there 6 he would get them as well :) ) Dean, thank you so much !

Dean was prompt and super knowledgeable about the area we were going to. He guided us safely to Slemenova Spica to enjoy the Julian Alps. As two girls from the city, we don\'t have much hiking experience, and he was patient and super helpful. We enjoyed our trip so much and it has been the highlight of our Slovenia trip. Thanks once again, Dean, for taking us on this experience!

Dean is a super experienced guide, he is very qualified to do all sorts of mountineering too if you are interested to try. I had a good time learning how to do snow shoeing and he is very patient in teaching me and assessing my abilities to suggest different routes which is suitable for my build and stamina. It was great and safe to have him as a guide because he knows the terrain well and that is good to know.
