Stand atop Japan’s highest peak, Mt Fuji (3,776 m), on this thrilling 1‑day guided hike (June to mid‑October). Departing very early from the Kawaguchiko area, you’ll ascend and descend the mountain in a single day. You’ll walk above the tree line, enjoy sweeping views of lakes, towns and the Pacific Ocean, and experience Japan’s sacred volcano with a local certified guide by your side.
Mount Fuji (3776m) is the highest and the most iconic mountain in Japan. On this one-day climb, we will enjoy setting off very early to reach the sacred summit of this amazing peak and return by the afternoon.
Due to the high altitude, we will walk above the tree line. You will enjoy the magnificent views along the trail of the town, lakes, and even the Pacific Ocean below.
Mount Fuji is located at a 1.5 hr. drive away from Tokyo. In order to tackle the lovely Fuji in one day, we will need to rise very early. I will pick you up at your hotel around the Kawaguchiko area and we will drive up to the starting point. If you have your own transfer, we can meet at the parking lot at the bottom of Mount Fuji at 4.30 am. *Due to the road restrictions, we will take a taxi from the parking to the 5th station during the peak season (JUL to AUG). The taxi costs about 15,000yen. per one way.
We will start climbing at 5 am. It will take us around 5 - 6 hours to reach the summit and then around 4 hours to come back down to the parking lot. We will be back at around 4 - 5 pm. After the climb, I will take you back to your hotel in the Kawaguchiko area or to the train station around Mt. Fuji.

Do I need crampons or ice‑axe in June or October?
In early June especially, there may still be snow or ice; in mid‑October, conditions can also be unpredictable. Your guide will check conditions ahead and let you know if any specific equipment is required, especially in early/late season.
What about the mandatory climbing fee?
Yes — starting recently, the mountain authorities have instituted a climbing fee/permit system for many trails, to be paid on site (~¥4,000 per person).

Trekking Guide
I'm a JMGA certified hiking and ski guide and UIMLA mountain leader. I've traveled more than 50 countries as tour guide of trekking, skiing, cycling tour. I've visited overseas mountains such as Europe Alps, Canadian Rockies, New Zealand, Patagonia. I stayed in Zermatt, Switzerland for 4 years as trekking and skiing guide.
Even I traveled many countries, I also love to walk and ski the beautiful mountains in Japan. We have distinct four seasons, volcanos, hot springs in our mountain areas.
My favorite mountain area is the North Japan Alps, Mt. Fuji and Yatsugatake mountains. Of course sake and tasty Japanese food too!
I hope you to enjoy the nature, culture and communication with Japanese people during your stay in Japan. Looking forward to enjoying Japanese mountains with you!

it was great overall, the communication and process , just wished the guide wouldve made it more memorable by being more interactive,, it was a solo trip for me so it wouldve been cool if he took random videos or snap shots of me doing the hike.. afterall its a once in a lifetime type of thing for us not from Japan to do this... but other than that great guide.

Yuichi was an amazing guide. He was professional in every way. He knew the mountain, the route and everything that we needed to do to be safe and have a great ascent. He made sure that we did not climb too fast and waited extra time , without resistance, when members of our team need more rest. He answered all of our questions and chatted with us both in transit and on the trail. Finally he was encouraging yet not judgemental when a member got abit tired.
Stay up-to-date on the best adventures.
