This traverse begins at Fujinomiya Base Camp (~2,400 m) and ends at Gotemba Base (~1,440 m), offering a dynamic, one-way route across lava flows, crater ridgelines, and steep scree fields. What’s the difference between the group and private trip?
Group trips include pickup from Gotemba Station and follow a shared itinerary with up to 8 hikers. Private trips include hotel pickup and more flexibility in pace, schedule, and group size.
Can I rent gear?
Yes. Rental packages are available for boots, poles, rainwear, and headlamp.
Is this suitable for beginners?
No. This trip is rated advanced — experience in alpine or volcanic terrain is essential.
Will there be shade or shelter?
No. The terrain is fully exposed volcanic rock, with no tree cover. Bring sun protection.
What are the transportation and meeting point details for this trip?
For Group Trips, the meeting point is Gotemba Station, a major train hub accessible from Tokyo and nearby cities. You’ll be picked up here by the guide’s shuttle at ~8:30 am. After the hike, you’ll be dropped back at Gotemba Station around 4:00 pm.
For Private Trips, hotel pickup and drop-off is included within the Kawaguchiko, Gotemba, or Hakone areas. This option provides more flexibility and convenience, especially for families or small groups staying locally.

Climbing with guide Guillaume was absolutely a highlight of my 2-week Europe vacation. Originally, we were planning on climbing in the Calanques, but the park was closed due to wind and fire danger.
