Description

Every mountain range in Bulgaria is different, which says a lot about how amazing the natural landscape of the country is, but the focus of this 3 day hiking trip will be the magnificent Pirin mountains.

The Pirin mountain range is a wonderful stretch of glorious natural landscape that is exceptionally lush in the summer months. Thus making it perfect for a long hiking trek.

As a result of the long walks each day, up to 8 hours of walking, and 11 kilometres of distance covered, participants of this hike should be in good physical condition. Furthermore, since there are some challenging spots during the hike, some previous hiking experience is recommended.

The list of memorable sights during this trip is long. However, a few of the best highlights include the following:

  • The Bezbog lake

  • The Popovo Ezero lake (the biggest lake in the range)

  • The Dark lake

  • The Tipitsite peaks

Along with the enjoyable hike, you will also get to enjoy a chair lift ride up to an altitude of 2,240 metres. The ride is wonderfully scenic, and because it takes place on the first day, it gives you a great introduction on the spectacular sights to come. You will also get to enjoy 2 nights in 2 different, comfortable mountains huts as well.

You really can’t go wrong with any of the amazing mountain ranges in Bulgaria. However, with the Pirin mountains, you will get to enjoy a bit more a challenge, as is the case when we make our way to the top of the biggest mountain in the entire range, Mount Vihren (2,914), which we will do on the final day of the trip. So if that sounds like the right adventure for you, send me a request, and I’ll be happy to guide you.

I can also lead you on this 4 day hike through the Rhodopes.

Mountain Leader

Hello all, my name is Zhivko, and I am an IFMGA Mountain Guide from Bulgaria, a member of the EEMGA. I am working as a guide full time, not only in my home country but also in a lot of different areas abroad, covering all the aspects of mountaineering: rock and ice climbing, summer and winter mountaineering, glacier travel, ski touring and splitboarding, etc.  Apart from that, I am also a mountain rescue instructor and a snowboard instructor, and I organize different group and individual activities or educational programs.I mainly work with personal trips on demand, but am into different options, and you are very welcome to meet me on any of them.

I think that Zhivko is absolutely brilliant in his role: always providing professional insight and mental support. I am sure I would have never made it to the top had I not been assisted by an experienced guide. Zhivko was very mindful throughout the entire duration of the challenge - e.g. advising on proper way of stepping, breathing, clothing etc. I would like to emphasise not only his great knowledge of practicalities related to hiking and climbing, but also fantastic psychological and social skills, showing respect to both: the environment and fellow hikers/ climbers. I've received a feedback following the completion of my 'mission' which will surely help me in the future. It's apparent that Zhivko loves what he is doing for living and he does what he loves rather than simply earning money. Absolutely fabulous experience!

Mountain guide Zhivko is a very nice, experienced and open minded guide who made me feel safe on our trekking. I am a beginner and he patiently guided me through the inspiring natural winter beauty of Rila Mountain on snow shoes. He prepared everything perfectly and made the trip 100% customized to my wishes. The area is breathtaking and remote in wintertime. We went to the Ivan Vasov hut and did not meet anyone on the way. Shortly: highlly recommended for nature lovers :)!
