Join Zhivko, a state certified skiing, mountain biking, and hiking guide who wants to take you on a 3 day hike though the beautiful Pirin mountain range.
Every mountain range in Bulgaria is different, which says a lot about how amazing the natural landscape of the country is, but the focus of this 3 day hiking trip will be the magnificent Pirin mountains.
The Pirin mountain range is a wonderful stretch of glorious natural landscape that is exceptionally lush in the summer months. Thus making it perfect for a long hiking trek.
As a result of the long walks each day, up to 8 hours of walking, and 11 kilometres of distance covered, participants of this hike should be in good physical condition. Furthermore, since there are some challenging spots during the hike, some previous hiking experience is recommended.
The list of memorable sights during this trip is long. However, a few of the best highlights include the following:
Along with the enjoyable hike, you will also get to enjoy a chair lift ride up to an altitude of 2,240 metres. The ride is wonderfully scenic, and because it takes place on the first day, it gives you a great introduction on the spectacular sights to come. You will also get to enjoy 2 nights in 2 different, comfortable mountains huts as well.
You really can’t go wrong with any of the amazing mountain ranges in Bulgaria. However, with the Pirin mountains, you will get to enjoy a bit more a challenge, as is the case when we make our way to the top of the biggest mountain in the entire range, Mount Vihren (2,914), which we will do on the final day of the trip. So if that sounds like the right adventure for you, send me a request, and I’ll be happy to guide you.
I can also lead you on this 4 day hike through the Rhodopes.
Tevno Lake hut, Vihren hut
Participants should bring the following items with them: hiking boots, rucksack (35-45L), trekking poles, water and windproof jacket, rain cover, sun hat, sunscreen, sunglasses, warm hat and gloves, water bottle (1.5L), travel liner (optional), travel linen, torch, personal first aid kit.
On the first day of the hike, we will take a short transfer to the Gotse Delchev hut. From there, we will take a chair lift near the Bezbog lake. After that, we will hike to Popovo Ezero lake, and then to the Tevno Lake hut, where we will spend the night.
On the second day of hte hike, we will hike for nearly 7 hours and 11 kilometres from the Tevno Lake hut to the Vihren hut, where we will spend the night.
On the final day of the hike, we will make our way up Mount Vihren. Afterwards, we will descend and take a transport to Bansko, where participants can then go to Sofia, or wherever else their travels take them.
Hello everyone, my name is Zhivko. I am Mountain guide from the town of Gabrovo, Bulgaria. The place I live is at the base of Stara Planina mountain or the Balkan mountains and therefore since very yearly age I started to get interested in nature and being outside. It all begun with snowboarding, followed by hiking, climbing and mountaineering.
I have been working as guide for the past 6 years in all the mountains in Bulgaria, as well as a snowboard instructor at Bansko ski resort for the winter season. I am also organizing different kinds of group activities, based on mountaineering and outdoor sports.
I became a mountain rescuer in 2012, Senior since 2015.
In terms of experience and personal interest, I have been climbing, hiking and ski touring all over the Bulgarian mountains, and also climbing and hiking in the Alps, the Dolomites, Croatia and Slovenia.

All very nice, great guide in a beautiful range of mountains!
I think that Zhivko is absolutely brilliant in his role: always providing professional insight and mental support. I am sure I would have never made it to the top had I not been assisted by an experienced guide. Zhivko was very mindful throughout the entire duration of the challenge - e.g. advising on proper way of stepping, breathing, clothing etc. I would like to emphasise not only his great knowledge of practicalities related to hiking and climbing, but also fantastic psychological and social skills, showing respect to both: the environment and fellow hikers/ climbers. I\'ve received a feedback following the completion of my \'mission\' which will surely help me in the future. It\'s apparent that Zhivko loves what he is doing for living and he does what he loves rather than simply earning money. Absolutely fabulous experience!
Mountain guide Zhivko is a very nice, experienced and open minded guide who made me feel safe on our trekking. I am a beginner and he patiently guided me through the inspiring natural winter beauty of Rila Mountain on snow shoes. He prepared everything perfectly and made the trip 100% customized to my wishes. The area is breathtaking and remote in wintertime. We went to the Ivan Vasov hut and did not meet anyone on the way. Shortly: highlly recommended for nature lovers :)!
