Are you ready for a once-in-a-lifetime adventure? Join us on this ski mountaineering day where we will climb and ski Mount Baker!
Mount Baker is one of the most ideal peaks in the Pacific Northwest for ski mountaineering! The winter snowstorms in the Pacific Northwest leave Mount Baker’s peaks covered in a smooth layer of snow each Spring. This means we should have plenty of fresh powder to enjoy. This mountain is the perfect playing field for skiers who enjoy a great deal of vertical descent. There is enough varied terrain to ensure that every skier has a good time.
In order to enjoy all the great skiing that Mount Baker has to offer, we will first need to climb! We will start in the early morning with our climb up the Easton Glacier. This is a pleasant, moderate climb where we will use crampons and exercise our navigation skills.
Once we climb up Easton Glacier, we will reach Sherman Crater. The crater sits directly south of the summit. Next, we will need to climb about an hour more. This is an especially exciting and challenging climb. We will reach areas where we need to do some 30 degree climbing. 30 degrees is the steepest incline we will find during this tour. At this point, we will carry our skis on our backs and climb using crampons.
We will be immediately rewarded for all of our hard work once we reach the summit! We will take some time to relax to enjoy the spectacular views. After some relaxation and congratulations, we will put on our skis and spend the rest of the day glacier skiing.
