Ski mountaineering on Donner Pass, Training day in Lake Tahoe

This ski mountaineering training day is a must for any budding and keen ski mountaineer, as I will lead you through some of the most essential and important skills and techniques required to increase your confidence and ability, whilst also allowing us to take in and admire the magnificent views and scenery we are in, at the beautiful Donner Pass, near Lake Tahoe.

Donner Pass is located just 27 miles from Lake Tahoe, and is renowned throughout the country as a great destination for outdoor activities, with several ski resorts and many charming alpine lakes dotting the region, including Lake Donner itself.

We will meet in the morning at Lake Donner, where technical and safety gear and information will dispensed, before we head out to the mountains in earnest.

Several skills and techniques will be taught over the course of the day, including advanced uphill techniques, rescue practice, ski anchors, ski crampons, basic belays and glacier skiing scenarios.

Learning these vital skills will ensure you will improve your ski mountaineering technique and give you the confidence to tackle more challenging mountaineering routes around the world. The fresh, deep powder every day also provides optimum conditions to help achieve this.

The landscape, scenery and terrain you are learning on also provides some truly epic views, with Lake Donner the centerpiece and Lake Tahoe visible in the distance, along with the many pretty tree-lined forests and snow-capped mountains and ridges.

We finish in the afternoon having provided you with the tools to further push yourself in ski mountaineering, and also provide a snapshot of the beauty of the Lake Tahoe area.
