Come explore one of Madeira’s most incredible attractions: the São Vicente Caves. Follow us and we’ll take you on a morning walking tour through these wonderful caves with incredible views of the island’s coastline.
The São Vicente Caves emerged after a volcanic eruption in Paul da Serra 890,000 years ago. They are the first volcanic caves open to the public in Portugal and exploring them will give you a better understanding of our beautiful island’s volcanic origin. The underground trail covers more than 100 meters with caves of up to 5 and 6 meters in altitude. The caves’ trail ends at an educational Volcanic Center where you can learn all about the geological evolution of the caves, the volcanic eruption and the birth of the Madeira archipelago. The area outside the caves also offers stunning views of the island’s south coast.
This morning hike takes place on Mondays and Thursdays. We’ll be happy to show you around this stunning location!

Thank you explore-share for a wonderful via feratta experience. We have been wanting to learn for a long time but don't have the facilities in Scotland. The guide Mitja was extremely helpful and knowledgeable, answering all my many questions and providing advice.
