Most of the routes in the program are fairly difficult to difficult, so prior climbing experience is paramount. You should be in good physical shape, and you should have the mental fortitude for challenging climbs.

**Join me for some challenging alpine/mixed climbing in the incredible atmosphere of Morocco’s High Atlas Mountains!**

Morocco is a country filled with cultural and natural wonders, and the country’s High Atlas Mountains are no exception.   This mountain range, located in the center of the country and running roughly east to west, is the site of some incredible landscapes, which in turn make for some incredible alpine exploration.  Plus, some of the best climbing spots of the region are conveniently accessible by car from the major city of Marrakech, making the area a perfect place for travelers to explore.

During this 5 day program, we will have a chance to take on the challenging, technical lines around the Tazaghart Plateau, which is part of the legendary Toubkal massif.  There are a number of excellent mixed and ridge routes in the area that will keep us busy, and the quality of the lines insures that it will be a tough, yet rewarding adventure.  Certainly, Morocco has a lot more to offer than the sand dunes that most people think of when they imagine the country’s famous desert!

Because the lines are quite technical, I offer this program with a maximum of 2 participants per guide.  You should have then necessary skills and experience to safely take on tough alpine/mixed climbs.  If you have a bit more time, I also am happy to offer this as a 6 or 7 day program as well, as there are so many interesting routes to explore.

We will be based at the Lepiney Refuge during this program, which can be reached by foot from the town of Imlil.  While the facilities are basic, Lepiney Refuge has the advantage of being less crowded and closer to the routes we will climb, reducing the amount time spent transferring between the mountains and our accommodation.  For more details on the plan, a day-by-day itinerary is outlined below.

Beginning in Marrakech, we will take a vehicle transfer to the tiny town of Imlil (1,740 m). From there, we trek to Lepiney Refuge (3,100m).

We will acclimatize on a shorter mixed line.  This will also give us a chance to make sure we have the skills for longer, tougher ascents.

Day 2

We explore the mixed and ridge lines of the area.

Day 3 / Day 4

For our departure, we leave the refuge on foot.  From Imlil, vehicle transfer back to Marrakech.

Day 5

##### High Atlas is a sub-range of the Moroccan Atlas. Its highest point is Mount Toubkal at 4.167 meters. And that’s where I want to invite you.

This region of High Atlas is snow-capped most time of the year due to its altitude. **That’s why High Atlas is the perfect area for the practice of ice climbing.**

During this 5-day ice **climbing trip in High Atlas** you will discover the amazing secrets of the frozen walls surrounding Toubkal Hut. Their ice pitches can reach up to 600 meters of height and they will remind you to the Alps.

Besides, I will get you out on **some of the bigger ice and mixed lines around the Toubkal hut.** If you want we can also build in some shorter days on the quality **cascade climbing** in the area.

Here you can see an estimate itinerary of the trip but you have to know that **any item can be changed**.

**DAY 1**

A private transport will take us from Marrakech to Imlil. From there, we will start the hike for 5-6 hours up to Toubkal Hut at 3.200 meters.

**DAY 2**

It will be an acclimatization day around one of the Toubkal trails. You will learn all the tips you’ll need to the next ice climbing days.

**DAY 3**

Let’s practice some ice climbing techniques in Ras or Akioud, western lines of Mount Toubkal.

**DAY 4**

Today we’ll keep ice climbing in another ice route of the Toubkal.

**DAY 5**

Last day to descend to Imlil during 4 hours. Then a transfer will take us back to Marrakech.

Although the ice lines in **High Atlas** are easy-intermediate, you have to have previous experience to this kind of activity. Besides, it is ideal for those who prefer personalized trips because the guide radio is maximum 2 people per guide.

**Enjoy some quality multi-pitch climbs among the unique alpine landscapes of Morocco’s High Atlas Mountains during this 5-day privately guided program!**

Morocco is an incredible destination not only for its fascinating culture and history, but also as the site of world class climbing routes in the Atlas Mountains.  These mountains separate the country’s Mediterranean coast from the vast Sahara Desert, with the highest peak,Toubkal, rising to 4,167 meters.  The area around the Toubkal massif will be the setting for our journey.  We will be based at one of two mountain refugees near the massif, Toubkal or Lepiney Refuge, which give us easy access to the quality ridges and faces of the areas.  Peaks with great climbing multi-pitch routes include: Akioud, Afella, Toubkal West, and the Clochetons.

As this trip is completely private and customized, with a maximum of 2 climbers per guide, I will select the specific routes based on your experience, skills, and interests.  While I am happy to offer coaching and instruction so you can continue to hone your technique, participants should already have a solid foundation of climbing knowledge and experience.  We aim to program the climbs so that they progressively increase in difficulty each day, with lines ranging from from PD to D+.  A detailed day-by-day is outlined below, although note that if you have more or less time, I can adjust the schedule so that the trip lasts 4 or 6 days.

Once the winter blanket of snow has gone the High Atlas which includes **Mt Toubkal** and **Mgoun**, becomes one of the premier summer trekking destinations outside of the European Alps. If you are looking to experience a non-western culture and cuisine, a beautiful arid landscape with the green oases that fill in the valleys then the High Atlas Mountains of Morocco are yours for the trekking!

I offer a variety of trekking options around the Toubkal and Mgoun  mountain range. My treks include:

What about the programme? Well that depends on you! There are spectacular treks in Mgoun massif, so my general itinerary there would include three days trekking in at least two of the beautiful valley systems.

If summiting Mgoun was part of the trip then I recommend a minimum three days to allow a good amount of time to acclimatise and enjoy the mountains.

I’m also happy to offer summer ascents of Mt Toubkal.

Here is a sample trekking itinerary in the Mgoun mountain range :

**Day 1**

Travel from Marrakech to Agouti (1,815m) via taxi (5 hours), walk two hours to Azib Ikkis and stay at the gite.

**Day 2**

Walk into Tarkeddit refuge (2,900m): 6 to 7 hours.

**Day 3**

Rest and acclimatisation day. A day to go for a wander up to the Tizi Iquadol col (3,640m) or over to the Wandras gorge.

**Day 4**

Ascent of Mgoun (4068m): 8 to 10 hours.

**Day 5**

Walk out from Tarkeddit refuge to Agouti: 8 to 9 hours.

**Day 6**

Travel back to Marrakech via taxi (5 hours).

**Mgoun** is not only an extraordinary destination for hiking, but it is also an unique opportunity to find the mysteries of a different culture, a non occidental food and a landscape that mixes aridity with green oasis. This day will be dedicated to acclimatization and rest. We can visit Tizi Iquadol Pass at 3.640 meters or Wandras gorge.

**DAY 4**

It will be a very important day because we will ascent for about 8 – 10 hours to the **Mgoun Summit at 4.068** meters of height.

**DAY 5**

Walk from the Tarkeddit hut to Agouti during 8 or 9 hours.

**DAY 6**

Last day. A 5-hour drive again towards Marrakech.

**Mount Toubkal**, near the Mount Mgoun in the **High Atlas Moroccan mountains**, is one of the best places for the hiking practice in Europe, outside The Alps.

During summertime, **Mount Toubkal** offers an excellent trekking option with the addition of a different cultural and culinary experience. They will be 4 or 5 days of hiking among the beautiful landscapes of Morocco. As your guide, I can guarantee the following services:

**DAY 1**

A taxi or minibus will take us from Marrakech to Imlil where we will start the trekking trail at 1.740 meters. It will be a 4-to-7-hike in The **Tacheddirt Valley**.

**DAY 2**

Today we will walk from the mountain pass of **Tizi n’Tamatert** to the valley of Mizane. After 7 or 8 hours, we will be finally in the hut of Toubkal at 3.200 meters of height.

**DAY 3**

**Time to climb to the summit of Mount Toubkal!** We will reach to 4.167 meters high and it will take about 6-7 hours.

**DAY 4**

We will take the **Tadat Col o Aguelzim Pass** and walk across the Bou Idaren Valley until we arrive to Tamsoult Hut.

**DAY 5**

**Last day!** We will enjoy a lunch in Imlil after an amazing traverse in the pass of Tizi Mzzik at 2.450 meters.

What about the programme? Well that depends on you! There are spectacular treks in the valleys surrounding **Toubkal**, so my general itinerary there would include three days trekking in at least two of the beautiful valley systems.

If summiting Toubkal was part of the trip then I recommend a minimum three days to allow a good amount of time to acclimatise and enjoy the mountains.

I’m also happy to offer summer ascents of **Mgoun** (4068m).

Here is a sample trekking itinerary for the ascent of **Mount Toubkal** :

**Day 1**

Travel from Marrakech to Imlil (1,740m) via taxi or mini bus. Trek into Tacheddirt valley. 4 to 7 hours depending upon chosen stop.

**Day 2**

Trek over the mountain pass of Tizi n’Tamatert (2279m) into the Mizane valley and up to Toubkal refuge (3,200m). 7 to 8 hours depending on leaving point.

**Day 3**

Ascent of Toubkal (4,167m), from refuge 6 to 7 hours.

**Day 4**

Trek to the Bou Idaren valley and Tamsoult refuge via the Tadat Col or Aguelzim pass.

**Day 5**

Trek out over Tizi Mzzik (2,450m) finishing off with lunch in Imlil.

**During this 5-day adventure, you will explore some of the best lines within the legendary Toubkal massif, located in the impressive High Atlas Mountains of Morocco!**

The High Atlas Mountains are home to some of the best mountaineering and alpine climbing in the small North African nation of Morocco, and are a top destination for those who love alpine adventures. The Toubkal massif is home to the highest peaks in the country, attracting experienced climbers who want to test themselves on some impressive and exciting routes.

During this 5 day program, you will have the opportunity to take on some of the bigger ice or mixed climbs in the area of Toubkal West, Ras and Akioud. These lines measure up to 600m in length, making them comparable to many climbs in the Alps. Unlike the Alps, however, our approach will be much simpler, as they are all easily accessible from Toubkal Refuge, where we will be based. Depending on your interests, there are also some great cascade climbs that we can tackle.

I offer these programs with a guide ratio of 2 participants per guide, so that you will have personalized guiding and instruction.  This program is technical in nature, and participants should have a decent amount of experience in winter climbing.  If you wish to spend more or less time exploring the fantastic lines of the area, I can also run this trip for 4 or 6 days.  Our journey will begin and end in Marrakech.

Acclimatize on a shorter mixed line. This also gives us a chance to practice climbing skills and techniques before heading out to a longer route.
