Description

Crystal Crag (3080m) is for ambitious climbers who want to make the most out of the day and climb high above the Mammoth Lakes Basin. Situated high above Lake George, Crystal Crag’s jagged rock form protrudes from the surrounding landscape and is easily spotted from afar.

The adventure begins with a steep uphill hike from Lake George with increasingly good views over the entire Mammoth Lake Basin and is not for the faint of heart.

The traditional and sport climbing options here are best suited for intermediate and advanced level climbers. Routes ranging from moderate 4 pitch classics to endurance sport routes are found across Crystal Crag’s North Arete, North East and Highlands Wall.

The difficulty level here ranges from low 5th to 5.11a (Grade II).

Crystal Crag is located within the John Muir Wilderness and is part of the Eastern Sierras’ Inyo National Forest. Other climbing venues in this area include Clark Canyon and Iris Slab.

Crystal Crag is for climbers who want to place gear at a moderate level or do some high elevation sport climbing. If you are up for the challenge, we’d love to hear from you. Request to book now.

Weather changed the event from 3 to 1 day and I was unable to summit in one day. Suggest the trip be delayed instead of trying to get it done in one day.

Patrick took me out to the Indian Cove! Loved the short approach and couldn’t asked for better weather. Patrick recommended great pitches where I could try new stuff like chimneying. Would definitely book again if I go back to JTree!

We had an excellent time with Chad on our multi -pitch day in Joshua Tree. My partner and I have some experience climbing sport routes, but had no experience with trad climbing or multi-pitch routes. Chad is a great instructor and led our routes with ease. We felt confident in his abilities to keep us safe and have fun. Will definitely book again with him.

We booked through Ryan, and Daniel was our guide - absolutely brilliant, very down to earth and knowledgeable. The climbs themselves were awesome, with insane views. My partner is an experienced indoor climber, and I have close to no experience, especially outdoors, but still felt safe and in good hands. We did a half day, which was 5hrs, and got 4 climbs in, then stayed after the tour to walk around a bit more and have some snacks with a view (make sure you take food/water as there aren’t any shops inside the park). Definitely recommend.
