Sport Climbing Day Trip in Clark Canyon

Sport Climbing Day Trip in Clark Canyon | United States

AMGA-certified Single Pitch Instructor Ryan Hartegan takes you climbing on volcanic rock at off the beaten path Clark Canyon. A 1-day sport climbing adventure close to Mammoth Lakes for beginner to advanced rock climbers.

Sierra Nevada

Intermediate

Description

Off the beaten path Clark Canyon (2190m) is reserved for rock climbers of all levels looking for adventure on and off the wall in the Eastern Sierras.

Accessible in a 4×4 or other high-clearance vehicle, Clark Canyon is located approximately 11 kilometers northeast of the Mammoth Lakes turnoff. It’s not one of the easier climbing venues to find, but it’s well worth the roundabout journey to get there.

Made largely of volcanic rock with natural pockets for your hands and feet, Clark Canyon is a really fun place to climb. Both beginners and more experienced climbers can enjoy its steep routes ranging from 40 to 200 feet in length.

Sport climbing prevails here, but some traditional and bouldering options are also available in this venue hidden among towering pine trees.

Clark Canyon was meant to be climbed. Request to book, and we’ll make sure you don’t get lost on your way to this one-of-a-kind venue.

If you are looking for more sport climbing options in Mammoth Lakes, check out my day trip to Crystal Crag.

Patrick took me out to the Indian Cove! Loved the short approach and couldn’t asked for better weather. Patrick recommended great pitches where I could try new stuff like chimneying. Would definitely book again if I go back to JTree!

We had an excellent time with Chad on our multi -pitch day in Joshua Tree. My partner and I have some experience climbing sport routes, but had no experience with trad climbing or multi-pitch routes. Chad is a great instructor and led our routes with ease. We felt confident in his abilities to keep us safe and have fun. Will definitely book again with him.

We booked through Ryan, and Daniel was our guide - absolutely brilliant, very down to earth and knowledgeable. The climbs themselves were awesome, with insane views. My partner is an experienced indoor climber, and I have close to no experience, especially outdoors, but still felt safe and in good hands. We did a half day, which was 5hrs, and got 4 climbs in, then stayed after the tour to walk around a bit more and have some snacks with a view (make sure you take food/water as there aren’t any shops inside the park). Definitely recommend.

Our guide, Spencer, was fantastic! He tailored everything to our exact needs, and we now feel equipped to climb outdoors without a guide.
