Description

Fontainebleau is located just 60km away in Paris and boasts a stunning forest that is renowned for its cultural relevance, nature preservation, and amazing boulders. On this full-day trip, which can be shortened to a half-day or extended to more days, I will show you the best boulders for your skill level while helping you advance and connect with your surroundings.

Along with being a lot of fun, and wonderfully scenic, this adventure is also very educational.  If you are a beginner, I will spend a great deal of time sharing with you the basics keeping your safety and the preservation of the environment in mind. If you have prior bouldering experience, I will also help you improve on your existing skills and techniques ensuring that by the end of the trip you will be a better climber than you were when the trip started. I only offer private guidance, so my attention will be focused on you and on offering you a unique approach to the beautiful Fontainbleau forest.

I incorporate knowledge from the Feldenkrais method, which works on movement, posture, and breathing, to help improve your movement on the rocks. Additionally, I also aim at helping you connect with the natural environment of the forest and to take the necessary measures to preserve the rocks.

While this trip is open to people of all skill levels, due to its physical nature, participants should be in good physical condition.

Fontainebleau is one of the best places in the world to practice bouldering, and offers a different experience every time you visit, any time of the year. So If you would like to enjoy it for yourself, just send me a request. I look forward to guiding you!

FAQs

Before/after the guided bouldering tour with you, we wish to climb by ourselves. Is it possible to rent crash pads in Fontainebleau?

Yes, it’s possible. You can rent crashpads at:

  • the “Karma” climbing gym in Fontainebleau
  • “S'Cape Fontainebleau” sport’s shop in Fontainebleau
  • “Le Rempart” climbing gym in Vert-Saint-Denis

For the day that you'll spend with the guide, he'll bring the crashpad (s) you'll need, as well as the chalk.

Is it possible to join a group?

You can join a group for a ½-day bouldering tour!

These tours usually take place on Sundays at 10am. Check the JOIN A GROUP section for upcoming group dates.

Group Size:

  • Minimum climbers: 2 (for a guaranteed departure)
  • Maximum climbers: 4

Please note, the tour will be canceled if the minimum number of participants is not reached two days prior to the scheduled date. In such cases, you can choose to convert your booking to a private session, postpone to another group date, or receive a refund.

Price: €150 per person (includes the guiding fee, crash pads, and chalk).

Meeting Point: Bois le Roi Train Station (approximately 30 minutes from Paris' Gare de Lyon). Please note that the guide cannot wait more than 10 minutes for late arrivals to ensure a quality experience for those on time. The guide will depart with participants who arrive punctually, and unfortunately, latecomers will not be able to join. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and appreciate your understanding.

Where is the meeting point?

If you don’t have a car, you can meet the guide either at the train station of Fontainebleau-Avon or the one of Bois-le-Roi (30min ride from Paris, “Gare de Lyon”). It will depend on where we’ll go bouldering.

If you have a car, you'll meet him close to the bouldering site, which he'll decide based on your climbing experience, your wishes for this bouldering day together, and the weather/temperatures.

What should I bring with me for this bouldering day together?

You should have with you:

  • your climbing shoes
  • comfortable clothes suitable to climb with what the weather forecast says
  • water
  • food/snacks.

The guide will take care of bringing the crash pads and the chalk.

If you don't have climbing shoes, worry not! The 'Karma' climbing gym, located just 2 minutes away from the train station, offers rental shoes. Your guide can make a quick stop there before starting the bouldering session.

Is it possible to come with children?

Absolutely. The guide will choose the boulders you will climb based on their climbing level, their ages and wishes. The guide loves instructing the kids.

How can I come to Fontainebleau from Paris?

You can come by train from Paris, you’ll need to stop either at the "Fontainebleau-Avon" station or the one of "Bois-le-Roi". It is an approximately 30-min ride from Paris (from Gare de Lyon). Your guide will pick you up there.

You can of course come by car as well. It's the easier and the most flexible.

What happens if the weather forecast turns bad?

If the guide considers that the weather won’t allow you to climb safely, he'll try to change the day, based on your availabilities and his. You could also go and climb indoor in the climbing gym of Fontainebleau or one of the gyms in Paris (you’ll need to cover the entrance fee). If these alternatives are not possible, you’ll get a refund.

Is it possible to climb for 1/2-day, instead of a full day?

Yes, of course. You’ll find the details for the 1/2 day tour here: https://www.explore-share.com/trip/half-day-bouldering-in-fontainebleau-near-paris/. You'll be bouldering for 3 hours during the 1/2-day tour, and 6 hours during the full-day tour.

We can also plan a multi-day bouldering tour.

What’s the best area to stay near Fontainebleau for the bouldering tour?

If you’re planning to stay overnight, I’d recommend exploring options in the area between Bois-le-Roi and Fontainebleau. You’ll find plenty of choices, including Airbnb rentals and hotels. For travelers coming from Paris, keep in mind that Fontainebleau is only a short 30-minute train ride away, which is also great for day trips.

Our guide for the day, Victor, was amazing. He brought us to some great climbs that had a variety of levels so everyone could enjoy the experience. My son was super excited to climb his first 7a. Thank you for the great experience! 5
Leo is the absolute best. Took me to climbs that are mixed of my strengths and weaknesses and shared techniques of how to best climb the routes. He’s strong so knowledgeable and best catches I’ve had!5
Our family had a great time with Leo -- he was an all-around fantastic guide. He knew Font so well, he was able to identify the best problems for our group, down to the individual. He was safety-conscious while also being laid back and fun-loving. He was really great with our 10yo and 12yo kids, who have a lot of climbing experience but can definitely still use support and pointers. And he was also great with me (a beginner) and my husband (an expert). On top of all of it, he was fun to climb with, and we all loved watching him get a problem he'd not sent before. A really great day!5

Léo made boldering in the forest accessible while also finding appropriate challenges for us. We had a great time and came away better climbers.5
I had a wonderful day of bouldering in Fontainebleau. Leo was absolutely brilliant with the kids! Thank you Leo :)5
We had a great day with Ivan. He picked a nice area for exploring bouldering at Font and he was good at pushing our boundaries in an empathic way.5
I was in Paris for a few days and really wanted to try bouldering at Fontainebleau, but since it was my first time and I didn’t have any friends to go with, I wasn’t sure how to make it happen. A quick Google search led me to Explore Share, and even before I booked anything, they were super responsive and helpful with all my questions.

On the day itself, my guide Ivan was amazing—he helped me read the routes, build trust in the footholds, figure out the beta, and even showed me how to downclimb safely. Overall, a fantastic experience and I’m so glad I went for it!5
We had an amazing time bouldering in Fontainebleau our guide went above and beyond. He made us feel very safe while climbing and was very nice. Would definitely recommend. Can’t wait to go back.5

Ivan was a perfect guide - really knowledgeable about the area and also great at coaching. We are really grateful that he planned around the hot weather, starting early and finding us some shady spots to climb
