You should bring walking shoes or sneakers and a backpack with water and snacks.

I will supply the helmet, rope, and quick draw.

If you don't have climbing shoes, I can lend you a pair.

Where is the meeting point? How can I get there?

The meeting point is located on the Route des Crêtes, situated between Cassis and La Ciotat. You can verify the exact location by visiting this page: https://maps.app.goo.gl/8aMUFRGofhLVxJbEA

If you're using public transportation, I can also arrange to pick you up at La Ciotat train station.

Is deep water soloing possible in Les Calanques?

Deep water soloing is possible in Les Calanques, including the area around La Ciotat. There are several captivating climbing locations available. However, it's essential to be aware that this activity is highly dependent on weather conditions. If the sea is rough or the weather is unfavorable, it can pose safety risks.

Rock Climbing Instructor

My name is Guillaume. I am a certified Rock Climbing Instructor in the Calanques, offering guided tours from Marseille to Cassis and everywhere in Provence.

I have been passionate about climbing since I was I child. I was initiated very early into climbing thanks to the mountain club of my hometown, Villemur sur Tarn, a small village in the south west of France. I had my first classes on the rock of Saint Antonin Noble Val, in the gorges of Aveyron.

During a trip with friends, I discovered Marseille and especially its national park. The beauty of the landscapes, the sun, the sea, and the endless number of climbing routes totally seduced me! After a year already planned in Quebec, I decided to validate my university degree in computer science. I applied to the last year of Computer Master at the Faculty of Luminy and moved to Marseille.

My passion for climbing became my profession a few years later, following a professional reconversion. More than 10 years later, I still live close to this beautiful area that is the Calanques and climbing in all its forms remains forever a passion.

Guillaume was great with my 13 year old. He challenged her with more advanced climbs which she loved. He also helped me improve my belay skills! Thank you.

Guide was relatively helpful when planning, but we needed to reschedule due to rain, he stopped responding completely to email or text. Day of the climb, I kept messaging and trying to call him, but he blocked me? Very confusing. I'm sure he's probably a good climbing guide (we never ended up climbing with him), but his responsiveness was pretty unprofessional. We ended up finding some hikes to do in calanques and climbing at the local gym 🤷‍♂️ Guillaume’s answer - “Hello, thank you for your message. I’m sorry that we couldn’t make this outing because of the rain and then your schedule. Know that I didn’t block you but when we are active in the Calanques we don’t necessarily have a network.”

We had a wonderful half-day climbing with Guillaume! He was extremely knowledgeable, quickly setting lines so we could keep climbing, offering helpful advice without being overbearing, and identifying runs that would challenge each of us (despite different skill levels). On top of that, he was extremely helpful in both picking us up and dropping us off at the train station. All-around great experience.
