Description

Join me on an unforgettable 6-day adventure as we hike from hut to hut in the Aigüestortes National Park in the Pyrenees. We’ll follow the Carros de Foc circuit through the forest, taking in spectacular lakes, valleys and mountains as we go.

Our adventure will begin in Vielha where we’ll meet. From there, we’ll spend the first day and every one after that hiking to different huts throughout the park.  It’s in these huts that we’ll all enjoy dinner together as a group. Then, early each morning after breakfast we’ll set off from our hut to start our day of hiking and exploring.

This week of hiking is physically demanding. The loop itself is 55 km long and we’ll spend around five to eight hours walking every day. On some days will ascend as high as 1,000 meters. Plus, there are also some steep sections and loose ground. You’ll need good fitness and endurance.

However, the beautiful scenery will distract you as you hike. This is the only official national park in Catalonia and it’s simply stunning. It’s home to over 200 lakes, mountains that tower at over 3,000 meters tall and high mountain passes like the Coll de Contraix, which you’ll get to hike through on this trip.

So, get in touch for more information and to sign up. You do not want to miss this opportunity to hike through, fall asleep, and wake up in nature for six days.

Itinerary

Day 1: Day one

We’ll meet in front of the Vielha tourist office and drive to the Tredos baths- to hike to our first stop which is Colomers Cirque. This is an impressive amphitheatre shaped valley. We’ll keep ascending to 2568 meters before then descending to the Ventosa Clavell refuge. All up we’ll spend around 5 hours walking.

Day 2: Day two

Day two sees us tackle the Col de Contraix, an impressively high mountain pass. Once we cross it we’ll descend to the Col de Contraix Lake before continuing on to our home for the night, the Estany Llong hut. If you want you can even sneak in a climb to the summit of the Contraix Peak which sits at 2957 meters. We’ll hike for 7 hours in total this day.

Day 3: Day three

Day three will be devoted to exploring the lakes and needles of Dellui, with an optional climb to the top of Dellui Peak. It’s worth it for the awesome views of the Aneto and Posets. We’ll finish up the day with a descent to the Colomina refuge passing by awesome lakes as we go. We’ll hike for around 6 hours on this day.

Day 4: Day four

Day four takes us to the Saburo Pass at 2668 meters. We’ll pass many stunning lakes as we go.  After that we’ll head to the JM Blanc hut where we’ll sleep. Day 5 involves 5 hours of hiking in total.

Day 5: Day five

We’ll start the day climbing to the Monestero high mountain pass. After that we’ll descend into beautiful wilderness and finish looking out at the Sant Maurici Lake, the largest lake in the national park. We’ll then ascend to the Amitges hut where we’ll get awesome views of the surrounding scenery. This day will involve 6 hours of hiking.

Day 6: Day six

On our final day we’ll climb to the Port of Ratera and follow the lakes back to the Tredos baths. There, we’ll get in the car and head home. We’ll spend six hours hiking on this last day.
