The Cascade Mountains are ingrained in the evergreen culture of Washington State and its wilderness. With Mt. Rainier and Mt. St. Helens in the area, its tough to go unnoticed. The peaks to the north of these two giants, however, offer similar thrills and beauty with a fraction of the crowds. From Baker to Shuksan, these Cascades offer the best of both worlds: access and notoriety blended with remote serenity and solitude.
The Cascades provide a true wild mountainside for those who seek out its rugged terrain. The snow is top quality and the landscape features the classic treasure trove of flora and fauna that this corner of the country is known for. Be on the lookout for bears and eagles, and peer out over the forests absorbing the countryside. With big mountain climbs and immense glaciers, you will have a plethora of lines and routes to improve your mountaineering abilities.
Your program puts you in the center of all this beauty. With many possible objectives, you can decide which features are most important for an alpine trip and tailor your mountaineering program around your needs. Mt. Shuksan contains an array of mixed climbing routes to hone your ice, snow, and rock climbing skills. Washington Pass is full of wonderful alpine rock climbing routes that you are unlikely to find anywhere else in the United States. And Mt. Baker is just a more remote version of the other big-name mountains.
You can expect to cover mountaineering techniques such as navigation, glacier travel, equipment uses and application, mixed climbing, and so much more. This is a perfect program for improving your climbing skills and preparing for a more ambitious climb. All of this can be reached with a short drive from Seattle.
This program does possess some challenging aspects, so a reasonable level of fitness and experience is required. Depending on your program, you should have both the physical and mental endurance to handle a mountaineering trip on this terrain.
I will make sure your program is safe, fulfilling, and an all-around great time. It is always my pleasure to provide an enriching experience in the Cascades, so expect to enjoy this majestic range like a local.
