Description

Come face to face with Cerro Madsen, an impressive 1,806 meters (5,925 feet) tall peak near El Chalten, Argentina. Experience the incredible journey of conquering one of the most sought after mountains in Patagonia.

Your journey to the Base Camp of Cerro Fitz Roy begins in El Chaltén, a small town in the Patagonian Andes of Argentina surrounded by towering glaciers. From here, we will take a transfer via vehicle to the "Puente del Río Electrico", the starting point for the hike to Laguna de los Tres. Along the way, we will pass by a number of stunning viewpoints, including the Laguna Capri, a captivating turquoise lake.

Once at the lagoon, we will continue the ascent up the eastern slope of Cerro Madsen, in search of the northern edge from where you can see the Piedras Blancas Glacier. On steeper terrain and with patches of snow, it is likely that we will use crampons, ice axes, and ropes.

Ascend the mountain, and take in the breathtaking vistas that await at the summit. These panoramic views encompass the valleys, lush forests, and neighboring peaks. When the sky is clear, you might even catch a glimpse of the city of El Chaltén, located approximately 10 kilometers (6 miles) away. It is a place where you can feel the power of nature and the beauty of the Patagonian landscape.

After relishing the mesmerizing views from atop Cerro Madsen, we will return in the afternoon by the same road to El Chaltén.

Previous climbing experience is not required, as this is a relatively easy route for beginners. However, good physical fitness is essential; the ascent of Cerro Madsen is a long hike, with a total trekking time of 12–14 hours. Thank you explore-share for a wonderful via feratta experience. We have been wanting to learn for a long time but don't have the facilities in Scotland. The guide Mitja was extremely helpful and knowledgeable, answering all my many questions and providing advice. On the day head to take another group but he quickly arranged another guide Borut, who was brilliant. We had a fantastic morning learning via ferrata at Hvadnik in the gorge. It gave us the confidence to later hire our own equipment and go out in Mojstrana. Altogether a five star + experience. Thank you.
