Colorado Volcano is a classic ascent in San Martin de Los Andes since it gives us a magnificent viewpoint of the Lacar Lake and Lanin Volcano. Climb it in one day with Benjamin, local AAGM guide.

Description

Colorado Volcano is 10 kilometers far from San Martin de Los Andes, in Patagonia. Its access is across the route 48, bordering the north face of the Lacar Lake.

The trip I offer today will take about 6 hours, leaving San Martin de Los Andes at 9 am and returning by 3 pm. During the trekking tour we will visit a Coíhues and Lengas forest. Then we’ll leave the vegetation behind and start walking across volcanic ground. We will lunch in the Colorado Volcano’s summit from where we can admire the magical viewpoints of Lanin Volcano, Mount Tronador and many Chilean peaks.

This adventure starts with a transfer that takes us to the international pass of Hua-Hum. Once we arrive at the base of the mountain we’ll start our trek.

The well signposted trail is easy and plain during the first 700 meters. Then we’ll get to a creek surrounded by Coihues. After that, the surface turns into a steeper one and it continues like that up to the summit.

Once we get to a high Lengas forest at 1.600 meters we will find a natural viewpoint from where we can admire the wideness of the Lacar Lake. Now, we are very close to the top. The way up to there is full or scarlet volcanic rocks that give the name of this beautiful mountain.

The deserved rest comes once at the summit, where we will eat and drink something hot before our return. The descent will be done across the same trail and it will take about 1,5 hours to the base, where our transfer will be waiting.

This program can be also done in winter. In that case we must use snowshoes**.**

I will be proud of guiding you in this fantastic climbing day. Get in touch with me book your places for your trip in Colorado Volcano.

Mountain Guide

AAGM and aspiring IFMGA guide from Argentina.

Since a very young age I felt attracted by the mountains, so I started climbing and spending time there. That's how mountaineering and climbing became not just an activity, but a lifestyle for me.

This lifestyle allowed me to discover many places, and get to know beautiful mountains. And I also realized that I could earn my living with this passion, so I became a guide,

Nowadays I have the big pleasure of working in the place I like really love: the mountains.

I worked a couple of seasons guiding in El Chaltén, and nowadays focus mainly in North Patagonia and Mendoza regions.

I climbed Domuyo with Benjamín few days ago, it was amazing! Benja, and his assistant Martín, were very clever and professional handling a group in which the members had different levels of experience and training. Besides, they know the area and the mountain very well, so we were able to make it to the summit! I definitely recommend Benja as a guide in Patagonia, he made us feel very safe at all moments, and helped us discover a fantastic place.

Me and my partner did the Volcan Lanin trek with Benjamin as our guide. It was spectacular. The trek itself was challenging and amazing, with brilliant views. Benjamin was the best guide we could have asked for. He spoke perfect English and he was so helpful on the mountain. He made us feel very safe despite some tricky conditions and we trusted his decision making. He also taught us how to use crampons and how to use our ice axes, which was also very useful and made us feel safe. I would recommend Benjamin to anyone - he is a brilliant guide and a great person. Thank you Benjamin for making Volcan Lanin the highlight of our trip to Argentina!
