Join Zhivko on this incredible 3-day journey to the summit of the mythical Mount Olympus (2917m), the highest point in Greece.
It is amazing just to see the mythical Mount Olympus (2,917m), also known as Mount Mytikas, home of the 12 ancient Greek Gods led by Zeus. But actually ascending the incredible peak and staring at Greece from its summit is even better. And over the course of 3 day exciting days, that is exactly what you will get to do.
While massive, Mount Olympus is actually full of beautiful and lush flora. The lead up to the mountain even has a gorgeous forest, which we will hike through. However, once we reach the mountain itself, the hike will have some difficult spots. As a result, participants in this trip should have some prior hiking experience. And they should also be in good physical condition. In addition, because the area near the summit is exposed, some scrambling is required, so this trip is not suitable for people with a fear of heights.
While the first day of the trip will be a rather easy and comfortable 2.5 hour hike, the second day is much more demanding. However, despite the nearly 7 to 8 hours of hiking the rewards are plentiful. The view you will have of Mount Stefani (2,902m) from the Muses Plateau (2,720m) is incredible. Also, the views you will get to enjoy from the summit of Mount Olympus of the landscape below are spectacular.
The summit of Mount Olympus is the highest point in the country. And the panoramic views you will receive not only from the summit but throughout the ascent of the mountain are the best in Greece. So if you want to spend 3 days scaling and standing atop the mountain that housed the Gods, just send me a request.
Are you looking for another hiking trip that last longer, and covers more ground? If so, I can also lead you on a 9 day hiking expedition that will take you from the Rila and Pirin mountains of Bulgaria to Mount Olympus of Greece and back again.
Petrostrouga hut and a mountain hut at the plateau of the muses.
Participants should bring the following items with them: hiking boots, rucksack (35-45L), trekking poles, water and windproof jacket, rain cover, sun hat, sunscreen, sunglasses, warm hat and gloves, water bottle (1.5L), travel liner (optional), Travel linen, torch, personal first aid kit, lunch and snacks.
Thessaloniki or at the village of Litochoro.
Participants will meet at either Thessaloniki, or at the village of Litochoro. From there, we will take a transfer to the Gortsia locality. From there, we will hike for approximately 2.5 hours until we reach the Petrostrouga hut, where we will spend the night.
Participants will wake up early and hike for approximately 2.5 hours to the Muses Plateau. From there, we will then hike for another 4.5 hours to the summit of Mount Olympus and back to the Muses plateau, where we will spend the night.
If weather is bad the day before, we will make another attempt to the summit of Mount Olympus. If summit was successful the day before, we will hike for approximately 4.5 hours down to the locality of Prionia. From there participants will take a transfer back to Litochoro.
Hello everyone, my name is Zhivko. I am Mountain guide from the town of Gabrovo, Bulgaria. The place I live is at the base of Stara Planina mountain or the Balkan mountains and therefore since very yearly age I started to get interested in nature and being outside. It all begun with snowboarding, followed by hiking, climbing and mountaineering.
I have been working as guide for the past 6 years in all the mountains in Bulgaria, as well as a snowboard instructor at Bansko ski resort for the winter season. I am also organizing different kinds of group activities, based on mountaineering and outdoor sports.
I became a mountain rescuer in 2012, Senior since 2015.
In terms of experience and personal interest, I have been climbing, hiking and ski touring all over the Bulgarian mountains, and also climbing and hiking in the Alps, the Dolomites, Croatia and Slovenia.

I think that Zhivko is absolutely brilliant in his role: always providing professional insight and mental support. I am sure I would have never made it to the top had I not been assisted by an experienced guide. Zhivko was very mindful throughout the entire duration of the challenge - e.g. advising on proper way of stepping, breathing, clothing etc. I would like to emphasise not only his great knowledge of practicalities related to hiking and climbing, but also fantastic psychological and social skills, showing respect to both: the environment and fellow hikers/ climbers. I\'ve received a feedback following the completion of my \'mission\' which will surely help me in the future. It\'s apparent that Zhivko loves what he is doing for living and he does what he loves rather than simply earning money. Absolutely fabulous experience!
