Description

This 1-day climb to the Olympus summit is designed to take you from the Spilios Agapitos hut to the top of Mytikas, the highest point in Greece!

Most Olympus programs start from Prionia (the trailhead to the hut) and take at least 2 days. However, if you would like to make your own hiking arrangements to the hut on your own, then we offer you the chance of hiring a guide only for summit day, in order to ensure your safety on your way to the top.

We will meet you directly at the hut and go over the day's itinerary as well as check gear (plus provide you with a helmet and rope), and then we will set off. In total, it will take us around 6 hours to get to the summit of Mytikas from Spilios Agapitos and back. We also offer the option of tailoring the itinerary in case you would like to explore some other hut options.

Whichever way you decide to explore Mount Olympus, this will be an experience that you will always remember. Contact us today and start planning this wonderful adventure to the top of the most mythical mountain in Greece!

Itinerary

Day 1: Spilios Agapitos-Mytikas summit-Spilios Agapitos

After breakfast at the mountain hut, you will meet your guide at the scheduled time. You will go through a short trip briefing and equipment check (we provide a helmet and climbing harness) and set off for the Mytikas summit!

Summiting Mytikas from the Spilios Agapitos hut usually takes around 3 hours up and then another 3 hours back to the hut. During the final part of the climb to the summit that requires scrambling, you will always be attached to the guide’s rope and offered advice and guidance.

Once at the summit, you will have time to rest, grab a bite, and of course, admire the view and take all the pictures you want.

The activity will end back down at the hut, and you will take the same route to get there. We can also arrange a different itinerary if you would like to stay in a different hut.

Although we were unable to reach the Mytikas peak, Stavros carefully planned our hike for the weather prediction and fitness level of the group.

I was blown away by level of professionalism by our guild Stavros Chasapidis. Form very beginning he kept me updated about weather conditions, alternative options and requirements for this trip. During our summit trip he showed highest level of duty of care and created great experience for me and my son. đź‘Źđź‘Źđź‘Ź. Also I would like to thank to Explore-Share for smooth booking and pleasant process.

Stavros was a consummate guide on our climb to the second highest peak on Mt. Olympus. We are not experienced hikers or climbers and are extremely thankful we had Stavros with us on our ascent/descent, for both the gear required and the tips and tricks offered to make life on the mountain safer and more fun. Before booking, Stavros was very speedy to answering our questions and reaching out. After we booked he stayed connected with us on the weather outlook, what to pack and also helped us book our lodging at the Agapitos refuge. The climb to the summit is challenging and Stavros made us feel very comfortable and always safe. He was very supportive, patient and kind. While we didn’t make it to one of the higher peaks we did still make it to the top of Skala. The views were amazing and it was truly an unforgettable experience. We want to come back again soon and will definitely book with Stavros again!

Stavros was a fantastic guide, extremely professional, informative, and calm in the face of quite terrifying and unexpected weather. We had a very pleasant ascent from the hut, starting half-past seven. Stavros was great about adjusting the pace for my comfort and he had a lot of deep knowledge about the nature in the surrounding area, some of the more obscure myths surrounding the mountain, as well as different routes I would like to explore in future! We were hit by an unexpected late-morning hailstorm on the descent; without Stavros' calm energy, I would surely have panicked. We got down quickly and safely; I was totally unscathed, with another good story to tell. Stavros prioritised my safety over protecting his phone, which suffered water damage. I hope the next trip was less eventful! I highly recommend the semi-guided climb; you can take your time below tree-line on the way to the hut, but I wouldn't have felt safe on the last exposed and technical section without an experienced professional.
