Description

Would you like to see Greece from its highest point, alongside Zeus and his gang? Then hiking to the top of Mytikas, the Mount Olympus summit is definitely a must.

At 2918 m, the mythical Mount Olympus rises as the highest peak in Greece. On this 2-day adventure, we will reach its summit and discover this historic and iconic landform, as well as its pinnacle, and gorgeous wildlife. Located within the mountain range of the same name, it draws tourists from all around to world, eager to climb its peaks, explore its nature, and learn its culture.

Our trip will take us on a journey through every aspect of this incredible mountain. You will spend around six hours each day hiking in the area, with the ultimate prize of reaching the summit of Mytikas, the tallest point in Greece.

We will set off early on day one in Litochoro at 8:00 am to discuss and plan our trek. Then, we will drive to Gortsia, our starting point, where the forest will line our path as we make our way to Refuge A (1940m). We will continue on to the Muses Plateau (2,650m) and spend the night at the mountain hut there.

The following day, we will pass by the mighty throne of Zeus and scramble up a challenging couloir to the top. From the summit, we will enjoy unforgettable views!

This is a sustained hike, so you should be in very good shape to join. Furthermore, there are some challenging moments that require scrambling on rock, so any prior hiking experience would be an asset. Of course, I will be there to help and guide you.

Price details

The price includes climbing equipment (helmet, harness, rope, carabiners, slings), a bottle 1,5l of water per day and snacks during activities. The price does NOT include transportation to / from the starting point of the hike, meals

Itinerary

Day 1: Litochoro - Plateau Hut

We will meet in Litochoro in the morning (08.00). After a short briefing about the ascent, we will drive via the forest road towards the trailhead (Gortsia Station 1100 m). We will start hiking the north side forest trail, towards the Petrostrouga Hut. We will stop for a short break in the hut and then continue hiking until we will access the Muses Plateau and finally the Plateau Refuge. Overnight Stay. Duration: 6-7 hours, Vertical Ascent: 1500m

Day 2: Summit Day

After breakfast at the refuge, we will climb up to Mytikas, at an altitude of 2918 m, the very top of Greece, via the east gully, and return to the refuge. Then we will enjoy a downhill hike towards the parking. Duration 7-8 hours in total. Finally, we will drive back to Litochoro.

Thank you explore-share for a wonderful via feratta experience. We have been wanting to learn for a long time but don't have the facilities in Scotland. The guide Mitja was extremely helpful and knowledgeable, answering all my many questions and providing advice. On the day head to take another group but he quickly arranged another guide Borut, who was brilliant. We had a fantastic morning learning via ferrata at Hvadnik in the gorge.
