Located in the small and rainy Yakushima Island, Shiratani-Unsuikyo is a magical mossy forest, famous for inspiring Hayao Miyazaki’s anime movie ‘Princess Mononoke’. This 1-day trekking tour is an invitation to traverse this fantastic scenery.

This natural park is definitely a Japanese wonder. It has many hiking trails surrounded by a rich flora, including some very old Japanese cedar trees.

For this trip, I will pick you up at several meeting places: Ono-aida, Anbo port and Miyano-ura port.

Then, we’ll start walking up to Taiko-Iwa. From this rock at 1050 m you’ll enjoy an amazing view of the deep green valley. Besides, you’ll see some of the highest peaks of Yakushima.

Finally, we’ll take the same route to come back. However, if you’d like to stay longer in the forest, we can take another hiking route.

In fact, depending on how long you want to stay in the forest, we can arrange a short half-day trekking or a longer tour. For an easy trekking, we’ll walk about 3 hours in the forest. After that, we can go sightseeing by car for the rest of the day.

Please contact me if you want to explore the magical landscapes of Yakushima’s most popular forest. I will be glad to be your guide there!

Just back from Hakuba –Japan and I’m so pleased to confirm we got such a great experience with Iwao who has provided a service above all expectations. Indeed assisting a family confronted to a new environment requires a certain level of patience and attention and all the family appreciated his sense of responsibilities and seriousness which allowed us to really enjoy this region by experiencing touring, hicking and of course skiing in immaculate powder. Iwao was very discreet but always acted to ensure we could take the best of all Hakuba mountains could offer to us during these 5 days. This experience will for sure remain in all our minds for long and this will be mainly thanks to Iwao ! Best, Arnaud
