Our hike will begin in the **Queimadas Forest Park**, within the municipality of **Santana**. During the walk, we’ll cross steep terrain with mountains, tunnels and slopes. We’ll spend **3-5 hours** hiking and face an altitude of **800-900 meters**. Therefore, keep in mind it’s important to be **physically fit**.

On the way, we’ll find a refuge that features the typical architecture of the island. Also, we’ll get to see part of the diverse local flora, such as cedar and beech trees. Furthermore, we’ll visit the stunning **Caldeirão Verde waterfall**.

On this trip, we’ll take a **4-kilometer trail** that will lead us through the peninsula and the **Madeira Natural Park**. Due to its volcanic origin, we’ll be able to contemplate amazing rock formations on the way. Also, we’ll get to see beautiful cliffs and breathtaking landscapes by the sea.

The arid weather conditions in Madeira Island make it a wonderful place to discover rare and gorgeous animals and plants. For instance, among the fauna, we’ll find the **seagull** and the **sea wolf**. If we’re lucky, we’ll have the chance to spot them. Part of the local vegetation can only be found on this island.

From this point, we’ll be able to see breathtaking panoramic views of the **Ribeira de Metade** valley and its surroundings. If the weather allows it, we’ll also get to see the central mountain range that shows the tallest peaks in the island.

This fantastic natural environment is home to several plants and lovely animals. While hiking across the **Ribeiro Frio Natural Park**, we’ll observe the local exotic trees and spot some of the rare birds that nest in their tops.
