I worked for several adventure tourism companies in Bolivia, guiding mountaineering, rock climbing, ski touring and ice climbing.

I love all the mountain activities, and travelled all along the Andes range, climbing peaks like Illampu, Chachacomani, Telata, Tiquimani, Sajama, Parinacota, Pisco in Peru and Aconcagua in Argentina.

I also did ascents in the Alps and in Australia.

I was trained in Chamonix by the French mountaineering school (ENSA).

Would you like to slide across the slopes of a 6,000-meter peak? Then take part of this splitboarding program in Huayna Potosí and make it happen!

First of all, we’ll go for an acclimatization trek to **Muela del Diablo which** is **3,825 meters** high. Then, our next stop will be **Janq’u Uyu**, a mountain in the **Cordillera Real** that is **5,512 meters** above sea level. We’ll go up and then enjoy splitboarding down. Finally, we’ll go to **Huayna Potosí**. Also located in the Cordillera Real, this is one of the most popular peaks in the range and it has an altitude of **6,088 meters**. From the top of the mountain, we’ll be able to contemplate the astonishing views of the **Bolivian Andes**. Take a look at the description of the itinerary at the bottom of the page for a more detailed account of the program.

Finally, take into consideration that it is very important to have **prior splitboarding or skiing experience** as well as a **good physical condition** to join this program. The ascent to Huayna Potosí will be challenging, but the descent will be rewarding.

Ascent to Condoriri, Cordillera Real

The **Parinacota** is a 6330 m volcano with a crater in its summit. The viewpoint and the landscape reminds us of a sandy desert. The ground can be quite difficult to walk because we have to step forward many times to advance a few meters.

During the trip to **Parinacota** we can see vicuñas, alpacas, llamas and flamingos. And if we talk about the vegetation, we can see kenuas, native plants and paja brava.

**Illimani** is a mountain located in the **Cordillera Real** range in **Bolivia**, and it is 6432 m above sea level.

We will leave from **La Paz**. In fact, from the city there are already amazing views of the mountain.

Although the season runs from May to September, the best months are June, July and August.

**Cordillera Real** is a mountain range that belongs to the **Andes** and is located in **Bolivia**. In this range, we can find **Huayna Potosí**, a mountain that is **6,088 meters** above sea level. This summit is very popular among mountaineers, but it is not so common for splitboarding.

To try this experience, I offer you a **2-day program**. First of all, we’ll meet in **La Paz**, the capital of Bolivia, and go to the Huayna Potosí base camp. Afterwards, we’ll climb to the high camp and go to the hut. On the second day of the trip, we’ll reach the summit of the mountain and enjoy the descent. Finally, we’ll return to La Paz.

Apart from splitboarding, you will have the chance to contemplate amazing landscapes. For example, you will get to see the **Titicaca Lake** and the **Charquini** mountain.

Remember that this program is **challenging**. To participate, you should have **prior skiing or splitboarding experience** and a **very good level of fitness**.

Huayna Potosí 2-day splitboarding adventure

Come with me for a **5-Day** climb to the summit of **Bolivia's Highest Peak**, **Nevado Sajama (6,542m)**.

There are a number of incredible, beautiful sights in **Bolivia**. From the **Salar de Uyini Salt Flats**, to the  **Laguna Colorada**, but there is something truly special about the **Nevado Sajama** located near the **Chilean** border. It is an extinct **Volcano**, and an absolute marvel of nature. Its summit is topped by a **Permanent Sheet of Snow**, while its **Treeline** goes as high as **5,200 meters**. Thus making **Nevado Sajama** one of the most unique peaks in not only **Bolivia**, but in the world as well.

The expedition will begin in the city of **La Paz**. From there we will make our way to **Nevado Sajama's Base Camp** and then the **High Altitude Camp** before reaching the **Summit** on the fourth day. The climb itself, despite the intimidating nature of the **Volcano**, is not as difficult as one might think. The gradient is manageable. And not a lot of equipment is necessary. So you do not have to be an expert to scale this mighty **Volcano**. However, weather conditions do play a part in the climb, and the snow slopes near the summit can pose some slight difficulties, but overall, the ascent will be fun, exciting, safe and riveting.

There are so many incredible and magical things to see, do, and explore throughout the **Andes**. And one of the biggest challenges is figuring out what to pick, or where to start. But I can assure you that with the **Nevado Sajama** in **Bolivia**, you can't go wrong.

**So come, let me guide you for 5-Days to the peak of this amazing, extinct, yet still powerful looking Volcano, where you can sit or stand in awe at the breathtaking landscape far beyond.**

Nevado Sajama 5-Day Guided Ascent

This program is one of the most **classics in Cordillera Real in Bolivia**. It is an **excellent program to ascend Huayna Potosí (6088 m)**, one of the most renowned and high mountains of the country. From the top you can see the Altiplano, La Paz, Illimani, etc.

Huayna Potosí is located at 25 km North from La Paz.

I really like it because the area is impressive and there is a great diversity, in technical terms, in a same sector. This allows me to adapt to different kind of groups. I enjoy spending time with groups there.

The huts in this sector also make it confortable (compared to Condoriri, which is more a “tent” expedition). Maybe we will have the chance to eat some trouts or observe some vizcacha, part of the local fauna.

For this expedition you need already to be acclimatized. I can also propose you options for a previous acclimatization.

The best period to do this climb is from May to October and the highest season is in particular June-July.

For this 7-day trip, I propose to you the following itinerary.

**Day 1**  
La Paz – Tuni – Chiarkhota.

**Day 2**  
Base camp – Pico Austria – Base camp.

**Day 3**  
Pico Tarija (5150 m). It’s before Alpamayo pequeño. Good chance of success and so it is a good preparation to Huayna Potosí. The slope is not so steep. No climbing. Then from the top you can see the Alpamayo Pequeño and from there you can see almost the same view. You can also see Yungas, i.e. the valleys there.

**Alternative Day 3**  
(more technical)  
Base camp – climb Pequeño Alpamayo. This ascent is quite technical. The slope is 50 degrees, with 2 lengths of rope. We’ll take care by gathering. You need good experience, but the most important is to be well acclimatized.

**Day 4**  
Hike from PA base camp – Maria LLoco (trek for 7 h).

**Day 5**  
Hike from Maria Lloco – base camp of Huayna Potosi (5 h).

**Day 6**  
Base camp H.P, high camp HP (3:30 h).

**Day 7**  
High camp H.P. – Summit – Base camp. Finally we return to La Paz city.

Situated near **La Paz**, the capital city of Bolivia, the **Aranjuez Valley** is a rock climbing area with a wide variety of options for different levels. On this trip, I will teach you about safety and abseiling and you will develop new skills.

I’d like to invite skiers and winter adventurers to this **2 day expedition** since I think **Huayna Potosi** is a great spot to practice real ski touring in Bolivia and climb a mythic summit.

The Huayna Potosi mountain is near La Paz. In this area of **Cordillera Real** we have warm and cozy huts as well as camping sites to sleep under the stars, even at more than 5000 meters in height! From up there we will have the stunning views of **Lake Titicaca** and the Yungas (subtropical jungle).

We will also get to see amazing mines, lagoons, a dam at the head of the valley and a breathtaking panorama on **Telata and Charquini.**

**Do you want to enjoy the Bolivian snow and ascend a mythical peak? During this ski touring trip we will ascend different peaks in Cordillera Real, culminating with Huayna Potosi.** 

Acclimatization is very important for this trip, as we will be in high altitudes and we want to enjoy the ascents. Therefore, our first adventure will be the trek to Muela del Diablo. Muela del Diablo is a small peak with a shape that resembles a molar.  It's a rather easy trek, near the city of La Paz, perfect to start getting acclimatized.

Then we will transfer to Janq'u Uyu for an ascent ski touring followed by a beautiful and long descent. This peak rises to 5520 meters. It's a unique destination in Cordillera Real, not very well known.

After returning to La Paz, we finally set for the ascent of Huayna Potosi. Its impressive 6088 meters are definitely a challenge, but we will be well prepared! Although this mountain is very famous and popular for climbers, few people do this ascent ski touring. From its summit we will marvel at the views over La Paz, the Altiplano and the Cordillera Real.
