Please note that you don’t need previous hiking experience. However, we will hike a total distance of almost 12km, so **I recommend this outing for people with a good fitness level**.

Situated in front of the northeastern coast of Africa, **Madeira** is an archipelago that belongs to **Portugal**. Its main island is known for its incredible natural areas and its variety of flora and fauna. Also, we can find the typical levadas, an irrigation system that crosses the entire island. If we follow these levadas, we’ll discover some of the best spots and views in Madeira. For all these reasons, it’s a great place to enjoy hiking.

On this **1-day program**, we’ll start at an altitude of 1,600 meters in **Bica da Cana**, where we’ll contemplate great sights of São Vicente Valley. Then, we’ll begin our descent and cross the gorgeous forest of Laurissilva. We’ll follow different levadas, explore paths and discover tunnels and beautiful waterfalls. On the way, we’ll get to see the lovely trees of **Folhadal**, and reach the **Encumeada** viewpoint.

Please, keep in mind this program has a **medium level of difficulty**. We’ll cover a distance of **11 kilometers** and spend **5 hours** hiking. Therefore, it’s very important to have a **good level of fitness** for this trip.

If you’re looking for a unique hiking spot, then this is definitely the trip for you. Come with me and spend one day in the magical Madeira surroundings!

**Madeira** is a Portuguese archipelago in front of the northwestern coast of Africa. The main island is famous for its amazing natural areas and subtropical weather. These hikes will take place around Rabaçal and Fanal. One of the jewels of the trip will be the **Laurisilva de Madeira**, a very unique forest declared a World Heritage Site by Unesco.

On this trip, I’ll pick you up at **9 am** and we’ll start our hike. The program has a duration of **8 hours**, so I’ll drop you off at **5 pm**. There are plenty of excellent hotels and different options for your accommodation on the island.

After the pickup, it will take us around 1.30 hours to reach the hiking point. On the way, we’ll make a stop near the sea coast. Then, we’ll enjoy hiking in a wonderful natural area where we’ll discover spectacular landscapes. For example, we’ll go across the Laurisilva forest and contemplate incredible waterfalls. Also, we may encounter some of the lovely local birds during the hike.

Although these are not very demanding hikes, keep in mind that you should have a **good physical condition**. Also, don’t forget to bring comfortable clothes and hiking boots.

Are you looking for a program to relax in the middle of nature? Then follow me on this **1-day hike in Madeira**, the Portuguese archipelago in front of the northeast coast of Africa, and discover stunning natural spots with waterfalls and lakes. We’ll cross a lush forest and follow the Levada do Alecrim.

Our hike will begin at an altitude of 1,200 meters in a refuge in the **Laurissilva Forest**. By taking the trail along the **Levada do Alecrim**, we’ll discover plenty of gorgeous waterfalls and crystalline lagoons on the way. Among them is the **Lagoa da Dona Beja waterfall,** with an altitude of 80 meters, and the **Lagoa do Vento lagoon**. Then, we’ll continue walking among beautiful trees until we reach the shelter house in Rabaçal.

**Levada dos Cedros** is one of the water channels that crosses the main island of Madeira. Come and discover its wonderful surroundings on this **1-day hiking program**. You will love it!

Our hike will start in one of the most beautiful areas of **Fanal** where we’ll be surrounded by gorgeous old trees at an altitude of 1,300 meters. From there, we’ll descend until we reach the Levada dos Cedros. On the way, we’ll find the lovely ancient trees typical of the **Laurissilva Forest** and contemplate breathtaking views of the **Ribeira da Janela valley**. Apart from the flora, we will have the pleasure to see part of the local fauna, such as the lovely birds.

Regarding the level of difficulty, consider that we’ll cover a distance of around **7 kilometers** and face an elevation gain of **300 meters**. However, the hike is not very demanding so it’s only necessary to be in **good physical shape**.

**Madeira** is an archipelago in front of the northwestern coast of Africa that belongs to **Portugal**. An old irrigation system built by farmers crosses the entire island and will give us the chance to reach many beautiful spots by foot.
