Description
Looking for the ultimate Mexican mountaineering adventure? Then this expedition is for you. Follow us and reach the top of La Malinche, Iztaccihuatl, and Pico de Orizaba
First, we will start by going up La Malinche, the 6th highest mountain in Mexico. At 4,420 m (14,500 ft) above sea level and with very little snow year round, this summit is ideal to begin our acclimatization process. Then, on the following days we’ll enjoy some more acclimatization hikes before ascending Iztaccihuatl (5,220 m/ 17,130 ft). Also known as Izta or Mujer Dormida (sleeping lady), this volcano is the third-highest peak in Mexico. Finally, after reaching the top of these two amazing Mexican volcanoes, we’ll end with Pico de Orizaba, the highest mountain in the country. At 5,610 m (18,400 ft), this striking volcano makes for an excellent first high-altitude experience. For a more detailed description of the trip, take a look at the itinerary below!
We’ll may split this expedition into seven days in order to reach the top of these three amazing volcanoes in the best possible conditions. However, this program’s length can be reduced according to each participant’s physical condition.
Normally it takes 2 days for each mountain. Once we climb one of the mountains, due to the acclimatization gained, it's not necessary to spend too many days on the next mountains.
Also, after each mountain, clients go to Puebla city, which is in the middle of the 3 volcanoes, for better rest and not to drive for too many hours. Some people just spend the night and go for the next mountain on the next day and other prefer to take some resting/tourism days in between mountain.
Puebla has a very nice historical center that people enjoy visiting walking. So, the 3 mountains can really be done in 7 days (very fit people) to as many days as you like if you want to do some tourism around. Even though no prior mountaineering experience is required it’s essential to be physically fit.

Itinerary
Day 0: Arrival to Mexico or Puebla city (2.250m - 7.381ft).
Day 1: Transport from Puebla to Malinche Cabins (3.333m - 10.935ft).
Transfer from Puebla to La Malinche Cabins (3,333 m / 10,935 ft). Once there, we’ll enjoy acclimatization hikes to prepare for the ascent.
Day 2: Summit Malinche (4.421m - 14.505ft).
We’ll climb La Malinche, crossing high-altitude forests, alpine vegetation, and rocky terrain before reaching the summit, where we’ll enjoy spectacular views of Pico de Orizaba, Popocatépetl, and Iztaccíhuatl. After the climb, we’ll transfer back to Puebla.
Day 3: Transport to Iztaccihuatl base camp (3.940m - 12.926ft)
We’ll transfer to the Iztaccíhuatl base camp (3,940 m / 12,926 ft), where we’ll enjoy acclimatization hikes and prepare for the summit attempt. An extra day can be added for better acclimatization.
Day 4: Summit Iztaccihuatl (5.230m - 17.158ft.) Transport to Puebla city.
We’ll start our ascent from La Joya parking area, crossing several mountain passes before reaching the “De los Cien” hut. From there, we’ll continue toward the summit, crossing challenging high-altitude terrain and the Panza Glacier. After the climb, we’ll return to Puebla.
Day 5: Resting / Tourism.
Enjoy a day to rest and recover after the first two climbs, or explore Puebla and its surroundings at your own pace.
Day 6: 4x4 Transport to base camp (4.250m - 13.943ft). Acclimatization hikes.
We’ll travel by 4x4 to Piedra Grande base camp (4,250 m / 13,943 ft). After settling in, we’ll enjoy acclimatization hikes and prepare our gear for the summit attempt.
Day 7: Summit Pico de Orizaba (5.636m - 18.490ft).
We’ll begin our ascent very early, between midnight and 2 a.m. At around 4,749 m (15,580 ft), we’ll navigate the challenging section known as the “Labyrinth,” guided by our experienced mountain guide. As the sun rises, we’ll reach the Jamapa Glacier, at approximately 4,900–5,000 m (16,076–16,404 ft), and continue toward the summit. After the climb, we’ll descend and transfer back to Puebla.
Rest days and tourism days can be added or removed between climbs, allowing you to customize the length of your trip according to your preferences.

This expedition says 7 days including flying days, but it can be adjusted according to your needs.

Will I need to bring any technical equipment of my own? Is it possible to rent equipment, and if so, what would be the approximate cost of that?

When is the best time to climb these three peaks?
October, just after the rainy season, is often considered the best month. The dry season (October to April) offers stable weather!
Are accommodations in Mexico City included?
Accommodations in the city are optional. You can choose economic or luxury hotels based on your budget. Accommodations during the climbs are included.
Are meals included for the eleven days we would be climbing with you?
Yes, all meals during the climb are included in the package.
Do the guides speak English or Spanish only?
All guides speak English, so language won't be a concern.
What would we pay for waterfalls visit and horse riding?
Hikes to waterfalls don't have any extra cost. Horse riding would be 30 USD per person.
Can I add an extra acclimatization day to the itinerary?
Yes! If you’d like more time to acclimatize before the summit, you can add an extra day at Iztaccíhuatl. This option extends the itinerary from 7 to 8 days and includes an additional day of acclimatization hikes before the summit attempt. Please contact your mountain guide to confirm the additional cost.
