Find yourself standing on top of the Alps as you enjoy the panoramic vista from the summit of the highest mountain in the Switzerland. In this program, we will spend time training in the nearby mountains before pushing to the top of the 2nd highest mountain in the Alps!
The Monte Rosa massif, located between Valais, Switzerland and the Aosta Valley in Italy, offers numerous peaks to climbers. The highest peak in the massif, Dufourspitze, is the tallest mountain in Switzerland at 4,634 meters (15,203 feet), and the 2nd highest in the Alps, behind Mont Blanc. It is a long climb but the views are worth it, as the panorama extends to the Mont Blanc Massif and the Italian Alps. No previous mountaineering or climbing experience is necessary, but participants should be reasonably fit, preferably active hikers or runners with some multi-day trekking experience.
We have designed this program to be accessible to anyone who has a decent level of fitness, and has the desire to push through to the summit! But don’t worry – the first 4 days of this program are spent training on the nearby mountains, so you will be familiar with any climbing equipment and well acclimatized before we attempt the summit. Plus, it’s a great opportunity for us to enjoy the incredible alpine scenery.
Zermatt, Switzerland will be our base for this trip. As noted in the day-by-day itinerary below, we will spend several nights at mountain huts, with recovery nights spent at your accommodation in town. Our budget package does not include any climbing equipment, but we can assist you with rental and provide you with a detailed packing list. Lunch, dinner, and other meals are not included in either of our packages.
If you wish to guarantee that you are prepared for this climb, we can offer you a little extra help: our standard package includes an 8 week training plan and 8 skype training calls before your trip. We have years of guiding experience, and want to make the climb as safe and accessible as possible!
Book now and we will spend 7 days exploring the beautiful Monte Rosa massif together, capping off the week with a a summit of the impressive Dufourspitze, the tallest peak in Switzerland and 2nd highest of the Alps!
Be sure to check out my other European mountaineering trips: Grossglockner 7-day mountaineering trip, Winter mountaineering in the Julian Alps, Climbing Mount Triglav in 3 days.
We begin the program with an orientation day. After arrival in the town of Zermatt, you will meet your guide, who will review the upcoming program with you and check your equipment. You will spend the night at your accommodation in town.
We begin our 3 days of training with a climb of Pollux (4,092 meters). After our climb, we will spend the night in the Val d’Ayas Hut on the mountain (3,420 meters). Total time climbing/walking: approximately 5-6 hours.
We continue our training with a climb of Castor (4,223 meters). We return to the Val d’Ayas Hut where we will spend the night. Total time climbing/walking: approximately 5-6 hours.
Today, we will climb Breithorn, (4,164 meters) before we head back to the town of Zermatt via the Kleine Matterhorn. You will spend the night at your accommodation in town. Total time climbing/walking: approximately 5 hours.
Today, we begin the ascent of our final peak! We will ride for a bit on the Gornergrat railway. From there, we cross the Grenz glacier to the Monte Rosa Hut (2,795 meters), where we will spend the night before our early summit push. Total time climbing/walking: approximately 3 hours.
We begin in the early hours of the day (1 – 2 AM) for our climb to the summit of the highest peak in the Monte Rosa massif, and the highest mountain in Switzerland – Dufourspitze (4,634 meters). It will take us 6-7 hours of climbing/walking, but you will have accomplished a summit of a spectacular peak. Then, we descend back to the Monte Rosa hut for the night.
We spend our final day completing the descent back to town. Congratulations! You may spend the night at your hotel in Zermatt.

I am a Slovenian IFMGA mountain guide with the ZGVS.
It was when I was 12 years old that I first climbed a mountain myself and by the age of 15 I had started rock climbing.
Since then, my ascents count up to around 1000, starting from Mont Blanc in the seventies and Triglav north face to Cho Oyu, and all over South America including 18 of the 6000m+ peaks including a first ascent on south face of Aconcagua.
I have climbed and travelled all over the world, Shivlinga, K2, Mt Everest, Manaslu, Shishi Panama, El Cap and sport climbing in Kalymnos and Cuba.
Skiing powder in great conditions and rock climbing under the sun are my motto!
Contact me if you'd like to have fun safely in the mountains with me! If I am unavailable then my trusted friend guides, Franc and Milan, can take care of you!

I had a very good experience booking the hike through Explore-Share. Communication with the team was prompt and clear and the booking process was seamless. The trip itself was also just perfect. Uroš was a fantastic guide, highly skilled and talented. The hike felt safe at all times, even on more exposed routes, thanks to him. He was always up to date on the weather forecast and planned the days around it, checked the conditions on the route ahead of me, if needed, discussed and adapted the routes to my level and always made sure I was safe and comfortable. I highly recommend him, as well as Explore-Share.

Explore Share is a really usefull website that has a great overview of reviewed guides for a (in our case) hiking/climbing trip. During the booking I got assigned an assistent for Explore Share that helped solve questions that I might have. Great customer service, and I will come back again.

Guide was very experienced and very patient with us. We learned a lot and he tried to fit in all the knowledge he could in one day, super awesome. A little tough going back and forth to get the trip set up hard to tell if the site is sketchy until you see reviews but all worked out. Ended up with an awesome day with an awesome guide. Overall pretty satisfied and thankful!

It's the 2nd time we have been booking with Explore-Share. The booking was super easy and both Explore-Share and the guide were fast in their responses. We did rafting as a family with 3 kids for the first time in Slovenia. The guide (José) was super nice. He was doing everything he could to make everyone at ease with rafting (he gave clear explanations), have a great team spirit (we were joined by 2 other girls) and have a good time. We had lots of fun and the nature there is so beautiful. Thank you Explore-share and Soca splash for the great afternoon! I would recommend this activity to anyone without a doubt. My kids immediately told me they want to do rafting again soon !"
