Day trek to Laguna Torre in El Chalten, near Fitz Roy

Situated in Los Glaciares National Park, in the Argentinean province of Santa Cruz, Laguna Torre is a glacial lake and a fantastic spot to contemplate spectacular landscapes from the surrounding peaks. Join me on this 1-day program and enjoy hiking around this amazing natural area in Patagonia.

On our itinerary, we’ll depart from El Chalten and go across a ñires forest along the Fitz Roy River until the Cascada Margarita viewpoint. After an hour of hiking, we’ll reach the second viewpoint of the trail, Mirador Cerro Torre. From these spots, we’ll get to see stunning views of the Cerro Solo, Cerro Torre, the Adela Range and the Fitz Roy River Valley.

After a break, we’ll keep hiking for 2 hours through lenga forests, moraines and plateaus and may get the chance to see part of the local birds. Then, the hike will take us to Laguna Torre and we’ll contemplate the Torre Glacier.

During the rest of the hike, we’ll traverse through more breathtaking landscapes. Also, we’ll visit De Agostini Camp, a very popular base camp for hikers and mountaineers in Patagonia. Furthermore, if you come in spring, we’ll also get to see a wide variety of beautiful flowers.

Please, take into account that this is an estimated itinerary and that may vary according to weather conditions and the group’s level. The trek will have an approximate duration of 7-8 hours. As for the requirements, the difficulty of the program is low but it’s necessary to have a good level of fitness.
