Highlights

Hakuba is a well known ski region in Japan, famous for having hosted the 1998 winter olympics. As such, it is ideal for winter sports and has both backcountry and resort skiing and snowboarding options. Furthermore, its 6-month snow season makes all the more appealing for this kind of fun. On these snowboarding day tours in Hakuba, I offer tailored excursions to fit your snowboarding objectives.

You will have 3 options to choose from. The first is to snowboard off-piste within ski resort areas. The second option is to try some free riding by using the resort lifts. The third option is to hike up the Hakuba mountains and try some backcountry snowboarding! Whichever the choice, you can be sure it will be fun! Also, because snow and weather conditions are hard to track long beforehand, we will have a flexible itinerary with the option of heading to Omachi, Hakuba, Otari, and Itoigawa to optimise the experience.

In terms of level and experience, all are welcome. We will adapt the tour to suit your needs. You will need to be in good physical conditions. Also, keep in mind that you will need some gear, but we can also rent some to you if you need. Finally, whatever your snowboarding objectives, I will be there to help and guide you every step of the way!

Are you ready for an exhilarating snowboarding ride in Hakuba? Then book your place and join me on one of these tailored excursions in the Japanese Alps!

If you want to explore some of the region’s taller peaks, then join me on one of our Hakuba big mountains snowboarding tours!

    About the Guide

I am a backcountry ski guide with JMGA hiking level 2 and ski / snowboard guide level 2 certifications, based in Hakuba.
I was born in Aichi prefecture in Japan and started snowboarding in my early teens. Before I knew it, I was snowboarding everyday in the winter and in my final year of high school, I moved to Iwate prefecture in Tohoku (northern tip of Honshu, known for big snow falls) to freeride everyday. I became a professional snowboarder, and since 2002, I have been a ski / snowboard guide based in Hakuba.

I wanted to share the experience and fun I have had in the mountains with many other people in a safe manner with the right education and so I started my own backcountry guide company in 2012.

Myself and all the other guides at my guide company are on splitboards and so we welcome snowboarders and skiers alike. Given my snowboarding background, I know how difficult it could be for a snowboarder to follow a skier's line!!

I'm also trained and certified by Japan Avalanche Network and Wilderness First Aid, and am a member of Japan Emergency Rescue Team.

When I'm unavailable the guides at my guide company that I trust, with sufficient Avalanche training, Wilderness First Aid as well as much guiding experience at my guide company (some with JMGA certification as well) will be able to guide you.

Please contact me if you're in Hakuba and want to explore the backcountry of the beautiful North Japan Alps, away from the ski resorts!!
