Join me in Les Saisies for 4 days of winter trail running and cross country skiing!

A 4-day course of winter trail in the heart of Les Saisies in Savoie (30km from Albertville). Join us and improve your endurance in a different and uncommon way!

I have planned a varied and entertaining program for you. It consists of white trail outings, snowshoeing and cross country skiing. The 4 days will be supervised by professionals.

The focus will be set on :

  • Cardiovascular and muscular quality improvement;
  • Training diversification;
  • Injury prevention;
  • Technical advices and intervention on physical preparation.

The objective is for you to learn a lot. We will be in the magical environment of the Saisies resort, in front of Mont-Blanc.

This 4-day course is supervised by myself and Cedric Bernard. He is a former cross country skiing top athlete. He is also a physical trainer and coach. He holds a Masters degree in athletic training and he is specialized in helping people returning to sport after an injury. In addition, he collaborates with high level sports teams (France cross country skiing team, soccer club Olympique Lyonnais, Korean national ski team).

The highlights of this 4-day trip are the following:

  • A tailor made coaching by cross country skiing and trail running professionals,
  • A comfortable accommodation in the heart of the resort with a spa and a swimming pool,
  • A program accessible for runners with no experience in skiing;
  • The possibility to bring you family and enjoy the ski area.
Improve your trail running skills and be supervised by experts in the beautiful environment of La Savoie.

In the ‘extra’ section below, you’ll find information about the required trail running level you need to have. You will also see the equipment that you need to bring with you.

During these 4 days we will run on average 15-20km a day and go up from 1000 to 1500 meters. We will alternate between single tracks and large paths.

Itinerary

Day 1:

Welcome in the early afternoon, briefing and explanation of the trip equipment, introduction to skating skiing, technical analysis, and video session.

Day 2:

Skating in the morning, working on technical movements, highlighting upper body work, introduction to waxing for optimum glide, lunch at the restaurant, discussions on physical preparation and the benefits of cross-training for trail running, afternoon trail session on snow at Les Saisies developing cardiovascular capacities, muscle strengthening specific to snow trails, end of the day at leisure (possibility of using the swimming pool and balneotherapy area at the Les Saisies aquatic center).

Day 3:

Morning ski skating, reviewing technique, speed work, video session, lunch at the restaurant, afternoon trail session on varied terrain, interval work, theme evening, stretching, interest, and methodology.

Day 4:

Morning trail session or white trail depending on conditions. Lunch in a restaurant Afternoon introduction to classic skiing: discovery of a new sliding technique technique to complement trail training. Debriefing.

A minimum number of participants (defined in advance) is required for the departure to take place. If the number of participants is insufficient and the departure is cancelled, clients will be informed via a phone call at least a week prior to the scheduled departure date and will receive a complete refund.

Clients are required to have a multi-risk insurance, covering cancellation fees, rescue and accident, repatriation and baggage loss or theft.

Not included: dietary supplements (energy drinks and bars) and drinks during meals.

Initiation level:

  • Regular practice of running 3 times per week for 1-1:30hs
  • Occasional running practice in varied terrain or regular practice of mountain hiking

Equipment:

  • During the day: a light backpack with a waterproof jacket, a long sleeve warm fleece type, a survival blanket, a whistle, an individual pharmacy kit*, a cap or headband, a hat and thin gloves, sunglasses suitable for running, long tights if you are wearing shorts to run, cereal bars and energy drinks, a plastic bag for waste, biodegradable toilet paper, a headlamp, a minimum reserve water of 1.5L, an elastic strapping strip and some cash
  • To wear: running short, a short-sleeved t-shirt, running socks, already worn trail shoes, waterproof pants
  • For the whole stay: a floor mat, a canister belt for cross country skiing, snowshoes (can be rented), spare clothes for 4 days, a personal hygiene kit, spare shoes, a spare water socket, spare batteries for the headlamp, a pair of spare laces, a pocketknife and earplugs
  • Recommended additional equipment: poles and heart rate monitor
  • Individual pharmacy kit: anti-friction cream, sunscreen, double skin dressings, elastic band, paracetamol, anti-diarrheal, antiseptic and personal drugs

I won many trail competitions such as Oxygen Challenge, The Glaciers Tour of Vanoise, Albertville Trail, Drayes Blanches of Vercors, the Frison Roche Beaufort, Run and skate of Chamonix… I have also some racing podiums such as the Saintélyon, the Lyon Urban Trail, the Causses Marathon, the Allobroges. J'ai fait deux stages avec Caro, c'est devenu une amie, et chacun de ces stages m'a laissé des souvenirs inoubliables. Le premier stage en 2014 en Haute Savoie à l'occasion du Trail du Gypaète. Le Deuxième stage en 2015, dans les Calanques de Marseille. Ces stages auront été parfaits à tous les niveaux: Paysages grandioses (on sent qu'ils ont été choisis avec soin), des échanges techniques avec des "pros" (un grand moment quand Caro inspecte les sacs à dos...), pleins de conseils nutrition - mode de vie etc... La découverte des autres stagiaires mais aussi des autres encadrants (très bon contact avec Guillaume Lenormand par ex.). Des conditions matérielles top (hébergement, repas, organisation etc...). Seule critique: le temps passe trop vite, c'est toujours trop court! Donc au final quand c'est fini, on n'a qu'une envie... c'est de repartir pour un autre stage! Et vu le nombre de personnes que l'on croise sur les stages qui en sont à leur n-ième participation, je peux affirmer que ce sentiment est partagé!

Pour moi le trail c'est avant tout la découverte de nouveaux territoires, les rencontres et les échanges avec d'autres passionnés, le respect de la nature. Mes 3 stages avec Caroline m'ont permis de retrouver ces fondamentaux dans un cadre toujours bon enfant, mais pas moins professionnel. Caroline est une passionnée de montagne et de tout ce qui y touche (sport, culture, gastronomie) et elle sait comme personne transmettre sa passion et ses bons conseils, toujours avec le sourire. Je garde un excellent souvenir des rencontres avec les autres stagiaires et mais aussi avec les autres encadrants, Guillaume, Seb, Cédric, Lydie et tant d'autres rencontrés au cours de ces stages.

Great experience, but definitely favored toward elite runners. One of our guides, JC, was amazing. He cared about every runner. The other guide seemed only to care for the elites (and himself). On top of Col des Montets, I asked if we had time to put on warm layers. The guide said "of course," but then quickly proceeded to run off with the entire group while I stood bare and freezing with my gear unpacked. Total lack of consideration for the well-being of his runners. Otherwise a great tour.
