This 3-day ice climbing course for beginners is an exciting option for those looking for a fun winter activity in nature.
The climbing course takes place in Rjukan, Norway, a place famous for its stunning icefalls. Throughout the three days, we will explore different aspects of ice climbing, and cover equipment, techniques, and safety. You can find a detailed day-by-day description of the course below. We will also have the chance to put all of our new skills to practice in the stunning Rjukan icefalls! In the evenings, we will spend the night in a comfortable, private house near the climbing area.
This ice climbing course is designed for beginners. Therefore, you don't need any prior experience to join. However, you do need an adventurous mindset and a good fitness level. The icefalls we will tackle during our practice sessions will be chosen based on the group's level and capacity.

-Independent arrival and check-in.
-Introduction of the guide and the participants.
-Introduction of the course content and the climbing gear.
-Getting your climbing gear, and adjusting of boots and crampons.
-What to bring in your backpack for the climbing day.
-First ice climbing day. We'll leave together at 08:30 after breakfast, for a full day of ice climbing at one of the suitable climbing areas nearby. They are all just a short drive away.
-The focus is first to learn how to belay on the top rope.
-Then we get into the techniques of climbing on ice, and how to use the ice axes and crampons efficiently.
-The guide will choose a variety of different climbs that will suit everyone.
Again, we'll leave together at 08:30 after breakfast. We will go to another of the suitable climbing areas nearby, where we will continue to develop the skills learned on day 2 and have fun on the various ice falls.
We finish at 3 pm and debrief, and then it is time for goodbye.

Which airport do I fly to?
The main airport is Oslo (code OSL).
There is also a smaller one, Sandefjord Torp (code TRF).
How do I get to Rjukan from Oslo Airport
The guide will put the participants in contact with each other. It's recommended to arrange car-sharing to get to Rjukan from the airport. This is the cheapest and fastest way to travel. Allow a good 3 hours for the drive. There is a public bus option, which takes 4-5 hours, with two bus changes.
Can I come by myself?
Yes, absolutely, most people come alone. Already on the first evening, you will get to know the others.
Do I need Climbing Equipment?
No. It is all included. Still, if you already have any of the following gear, you may bring this with you:
• Mountaineering boots, B3
• Climbing harness
• Climbing helmet
• Technical ice axes
• Crampons for ice climbing
When do we start in the morning, and when is the day finished?
We start at 8:30 and we are back around 15:30.
What should I wear?
You should wear winter clothing, like if you were going skiing.
When you make your booking, the guide will send you a detailed list.
What is the accommodation like?
You will be staying in the guide's private home. It has a mixed dormitory with bunk beds. It has comfortable beds, a living room, a kitchen, and a drying room for the climbing gear.
When do I have to be in Rjukan?
Best if you could get there by 20:00.
If you can't make it on time, don't worry, but please inform the guide.
Do I need insurance?
Normal travel insurance will do. Rescue operations are free in Norway, even helicopter rescue.
When does the course start?
The course starts on the first day (normally Friday) at 20:00.
