Description
Ice climbing is an activity that people often enjoy for years, even decades. There are several reasons for that, from the excitement of the activity itself to the sheer volume and variety of ice falls all around the world. However, one thing that is very important for anybody who wishes to ice climb, whether for one time or a lifetime, is the necessity to learn the fundamentals. And on this 2-day beginner level course, I will see to it you learn a great deal of skills and techniques. Thus ensuring your ice climbing experience is both safe and fun. Furthermore, this course will take place on the gorgeous ice falls of Rjukan, in Norway.
Located approximately 370 kilometers from Bergen and 175 kilometers from Oslo, Rjukan’s remoteness gives it a truly rustic, peaceful aura.
There are over 150 different frozen waterfalls to choose from in Rjukan. And during this 2-day course, we will pick the best ones based on your abilities, preferences and weather conditions. Hence making sure you learn about ice climbing in the best possible ice climbing conditions.
While this course is for beginners, it is important that all participants are in good physical condition.

Thanks to Jorn for two great days out in Rjukan. Our beginners group found him to be knowledgeable, articulate and patient. They went on to use their new skills and enjoy some steep climbs in the second half of the week

We booked through explore.com which gave great direct access to the guides in the area we wanted. We went with Jørn because he gave good clear information about cost, gear requirements, location and timings. He also gave us advice on accommodation in the area. As a guide he was very reassuring, methodical, informative but still fun and entertaining. We went for two days as a beginner course. My partner was slightly more anxious about ice climbing and he quickly helped her fears. He was also very accommodating when it came to me wanting to try and push my limits. I have other friends that have gone with Jørn for help with more advanced multi pitch trips and have enjoyed themselves immensely. So I could not recommend Jørn more for whatever level you are at; he will facilitate lots of fun, whilst being safe and learning a lot. Definitely want to return and will contact Jørn again when we do.
