Description

Join one of our expert guides to the summit of Nevado de Toluca (4,680 meters) on this 2-days ascent.

Due to the easy access and proximity to Mexico City, and the incomparable beauty of its 2 lakes in the crater, this is one of the most popular ascents in Mexico.

Reaching the lakes is quite easy. However, getting to the summit is a little bit more challenging. Although it doesn’t require much technical gear, with the exception of the days when it’s covered in snow, particularly around its rocky and sharp ridges.

Nonetheless you won’t have to worry about the technical part, specially if you don’t have previous experience. All you need is to have a good fitness level, and allow your body to acclimatize properly to the altitude. One of our expert guides will follow you all throughout this journey, to help you out and make sure you are safe and enjoying your time here. Moreover, we provide all the technical equipment included in the price. So, you don’t have to worry about bringing your own.

The route we recommend, cañada del Oslo, begins at a forest area which would lead us to the main summit Pico del Fraile. Upon arrival, we’ll enjoy stunning views of the crater lakes Laguna del Sol and Laguna de la Luna.

Then for the descent, we can take the same route, or in the opposite direction towards the lake. And for those looking for bigger challenges, we can take a route that leads to the secondary summit, Pico del Aguila.

If you wish to join this mountaineering adventure, request to book this trip today. One of our local guides will have to pleasure to accompany you to the summit of Nevado de Toluca.

Everything was great! I did not have much experience hiking (let alone trekking a mountain), but the 3-summits team did a fantastic job of guiding me through everything. I cannot imagine a better experience. Truly an amazing experience.

we‘ve been with Alvaro on a 1 day Malinche trip in april. Malinche in 1 day is absolutely doable, a guide to find the right way around is a good idea. Alvaro was great, really making an effort for us to be fine through the day.

Our trip to Pico de Orizaba was awesome. Alvaro, Alejandro, Karla, and the team provided immense flexibility when it came to dates, and travel. Alvaro & Alejandro helped my fellow climber and I summit the mountain in a safe and consistent way that helped us push past our physical limits in a healthy way. If you are considering booking Pico I would suggest that you take more time to acclimatize (perhaps even booking options to climb La Malinche or at least spending more time in Mexico City at 7K+ feet elevation). Pico is a true challenge and significantly harder than other mountains of equal or greater height. I would say that many people having negative experiences on the mountain is due to significant lack of preparation. I think there's is often a huge gap between the actual and expected difficulty of the mountain (this mountain is significantly harder than Kilimanjaro, perhaps 3-5 times as difficult given the grading - steepness, slight technical nature of using crampons, and if you're doing it in 2-3 days the speed of acclimatization is really difference) Book with 3summits without worry. Only thing I'll say is don't expect this experience to be super sanitized and touristy. You're climbing a mountain and experience Mexico outside of the most touristy areas. Keep an open mind and you'll have an absolutely amazing experience.

Before the trip, Karla and Alvaro answered all of our questions and booked all of our accomodations before landing in Mexico. Alvaro, the owner of the business, is super knowledgable and was willing to work around my groups busy schedule for multiple video calls to answer questions and troubleshoot prior to the trip. Once we landed in Mexico, we were greeted by the coolest group of dudes. For La Minche, Alejandro and Danny were great! They made us awesome food and got us to the top with the perritos just as planned. Two days later, Gilgamesh and Paco guided us to the top of Pico de Orizaba in record time. I will definitely be recomending this outfit to anyone who is interested in a somewhat exotic trip to the third highest peak in North America!

First time ever to Mexico. First time ever seeing a Volcano. First time ever attempting a 17,000+ ft peak. From start to finish this could not have been a better experience. If you can, try to request “Mesh” as your guide. Unbelievably knowledgeable and incredibly patient. Will be back for another trip sometime this year!

Cristian was an amazing guide. (I have been with other guides from the same company, like Ilgamesh, Daniel, and Ivonne -- they are also amazing.) The thing I most appreciate is that they are trained to keep me safe, for example, to monitor my body conditions, keep me roped, and various other things. It's clear that they have a lot of experience and training. Thank you for a great trip!

Explore-share was phenomenal in helping make this trip and climb possible from beginning to end. They were quick to help answer all of my questions through WhatsApp while trying to plan the trip. They helped me find hotels to stay in in both Puebla and Mexico City. They set up drivers to pick us up from the airport in Mexico City and bring us to Puebla and then back again after the climb. Our guide for Malinche was wonderful. He offered guidance about clothing and pacing etc at the beginning and then realized we were well equipped and experienced for climbing 14,000ft peaks and allowed us to go at our pace. Our guide for Pico was also VERY experienced and took good care of us. He got us to the summit which only 50% manage to do! Being able to rent equipment was very helpful. The boot are a little old and soles worn down. Consider bringing your own. The other equipment (crampons, sleeping bags, tents, poles etc) worked great! Overall incredible experience and explore-share was a very big part of that!
