FAQs: Mountain Climbing in undefined

What should I know about Mountain Climbing South America?

The highest mountains in South America are located in the Andes mountain range, which houses about 103 peaks over 6,000 meters. In the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta, Colombia, we find the Cristobal Colón Peak (5776 m), which is the highest outside the Andes Mountains. Mount Aconcagua, the highest in the entire American continent, is considered one of the “Seven Summits.”

Why should I choose South America for my Mountain Climbing adventure?

Variety of options

No matter which place in South America you choose, you will always find good mountaineering challenges adapted to your requirements. Countries such as Peru, Bolivia, Brazil and Colombia are ideal for climbers of basic and intermediate levels. For the most experienced, Chile or Argentina - with Aconcagua - are interesting points for mountain climbing.

History and culture

The original settlements of South America are more alive than ever. At every step, the natural beauties you will see are guarded by the only people who have really protected them. Each site in South America has a history written by its aborigines, each trail is sacred.

Big challenges ahead

South America is home to huge mountains and volcanoes for those who want to break records. Starting with Mount Aconcagua in Argentina (6962 m), you have more challenges ahead: Ojos del Salado (6893 m) shared by Argentina and Chile; Nevado Huascarán (6746 m) in Peru; Sajama Volcano (6548 m) in Bolivia; or Chimborazo (6268 m) in Ecuador.

What can I expect from the weather during my Mountain Climbing trip in South America?

Weather in South America is very varied: humid and warm in the Amazon Rainforest, cold and dry in Patagonia, arid in the Atacama Desert, and windy in Tierra del Fuego. This is mainly due to the breadth of latitudes that occupy the continent, the different oceans that surround it, and the presence of the Andes, which acts as a climatic "wall".

Which language is predominantly spoken in the South America region?

Mainly Spanish, with the exception of Brazil. There are also many indigenous languages, such as Quechua, Guaraní, Aymara, Maya, and many more.
