Hi! I'm Renato, IFMGA guide from the Dolomites, and I work together with my colleagues Robert, Patrick & Walter (German speaking), Paolo, Matteo, Davide, Giorgia and Luca.

If I'm not available to guide you, one of them will take care of you.

I was born in 1961, I live in Campitello di Fassa, in the Dolomites, together with my family. I have two sons, one is a mountain guide, the other is a ski instructor. I am a certified mountain guide since 1982, an instructor of guides, alpine ski instructor and a Federal coach for ISEF.

Being in the mountains has always been my passion, guiding people, teaching them climbing, mountaineering... during the various seasons of the year. I very much enjoy drawing nice curves in fresh powder snow and discover the charm of the frozen waterfalls.

My curriculum and professional mountaineering is made of many ascents and some openings of routes in the Dolomites and the Alps. I climbed in Yosemite Valley (California), Ben Nevis (Scotland) and Norway, Greece, Spain and Sardinia. I did also several high altitude climbs like Mt Denali (Alaska), Ama Dablam (6828m), Cho Oyu (8201m), Manaslu (8163m), Shivling in India (6545m), Cotopaxi and Chimborazo in Ecuador (5897m and 6310m), Patagonia (Argentina).

I read so many glowing reviews about other people's experience with the guides on this site. It is with a conflicted heart, that i can't write the same about Roberto. Did he do his job, which was climb a multipitch route on Piccola? Yes he did. Robert did his job. Roberto didn't have much to say to me ... perhaps i caught him on a bad day, but he definitely let me know that I should've rented a car to come to the Dolomites. After much text exchanging, he had me take a taxi to a restaurant that was next to the approach of Piccola. Roberto is a very efficient guide and his rope management skills are great. We cruised the climb in about 2 hours, faster than the 3 hr, 30 min allotted time. Roberto makes sure you get down safe. A few hours later, he sent several photos and videos he took with his phone.3

Via ferrata was excellent and challenging, being my first Italian via ferrata. It was also a beautiful day! Unfortunately, the Guide needed to split time between two early 20's faster and stronger climbers and myself, a mid-60's active hiker, but slower on the vertical sections.4

He was warm and friendly. He understood that we are new to the via ferrata experience so he was patient and helpful. We were very lucky to get Patrick Carminati to be our guide as we were very happy with his services.  He was very kind and patient to explain the steps and prepared us very well for the ice climbing course. We felt very safe throughout the journey and very well taken care of. He was also very knowledgeable and experienced as he taught us the skills for ice climbing. We also appreciate the transparency from his side with the sub-optimal conditions with the thick snow covering the waterfalls and are grateful that he proceeded with the course anyway. It was an overall very good experience and I’d highly recommend to anyone out there.
