Description
Climb around the Calanques and spend a day in the beautiful Calanques! Learn the ropes of an amazing French location while climbing above the Mediterranean Sea in Calanque de Morgiou!
The Massif des Calanques are a French mountain range spanning the Mediterranean coast between Marseille and Cassis. The predominantly-limestone walls and cliffs are home to an array of amazing flora and fauna. One of the largest of the Calanques, the Calanque de Morgiou, is a former fishing village and even has an underwater grotto with cave drawings.
Your program takes place here, at Morgiou, where you will climb directly above the crashing waves of the sea. The picturesque white cliffs have some vegetation sprouting through the crevices and cracks, complimenting the contrasting beauty of the water and the rock.
Morgiou is relatively easy to access – it has become a tourist destination for sport enthusiasts. Its proximity to Marseille adds to its international appeal and availability to travelers, though its location in the central part of the Calanques still maintains its charming mystery.
You can enjoy single- and multi-pitches, along with climbs that feature the rush of the environment and the technical skill of the sport. Because of its size, Morgiou has many options and routes that are available to all levels of climber. It is a beautiful place to hone your craft, and you will undoubtedly fall madly in love with this amazing region.
There are also other activities to enjoy in the area, including a visit to the Cosquer Cave. This underwater grotto contains cave paintings that date back to the Upper Paleolithic, and can be accessed by divers.
While this is a day trip, it still presents some challenges along the terrain, so a moderate level of fitness and fortitude are required.

Mountain Guide
Even as a kid, I knew I wanted to become a mountain guide. Growing up in Aix-en-Provence, in southern France, the Alps have been my playground since a very young age. Amazing climbing spots like the Calanques and Gorges du Verdon were just a stone throw's away from my hometown.
Eventually, I also became an architect, another long-time passion. As an architect, I lived in New York, Barcelona and Rotterdam and learned to speak fluent English and Spanish. I also met great people and had an amazing time while doing it!
I'm now back home in France and spend most of my time guiding in the Alps. I'll be happy to take you rock climbing, skiing or mountaineering to some of my favorite spots.
