FAQs

When is it the best time to climb Matterhorn?

The Hörnlihütte will be open from 28th June until 21st September 2025. The best time to climb

Matterhorn is between July and August!

What are the extra costs to cover on top of your guiding service?

You'll need to pay for the following costs:

  • Hut, for you and guide
  • Zermatt – Schwarzsee Cable Car (approximately 58CHF – round trip)
  • Personal expenses (food, beverages, etc.)

When should I book the ascent?

Ideally, at least 6 months in advance.

When do we start and finish the climb?

The climb starts on the 2nd day at around 4:30 am and we finish in the afternoon, at around

12:30 pm.

What happens in the event of bad weather?

In case of bad weather predicted by the guide the event will be cancelled. If the guide decides to

confirm the event because he considers a high success rate and sufficient safety conditions with

respect to the weather, the cost of the event will not be refundable. No refunds will be made if a

member of the group is unable to reach the summit or if the guide decides to descend due to

reasons due to the client’s abilities or the weather.

Is it possible to climb Matterhorn in June?

No. The season to climb Matterhorn goes from July till the end of August (Sometimes it’s also

possible to climb it at the beginning of September).

How experienced do I need to be to climb Matterhorn? How fit do I need to be? How can I maximize my chances to make the adventure a success?

Alpine climbing experience (scrambling, climbing with crampons) is mandatory. If you never did

any technical climbing in your life, we should probably start with a different objective and work

our way to this goal together. You need to have the ability to climb/endure and stay focused for

approximately 8 hours. I highly recommend a preparation climb on a 4000 m peak nearby as a

day trip to assess and increase the chances of success.

How many climbers can you take with you?

It’s 1 guide = 1 client climbing route. Taking more than 1 client is very unsafe and prohibited!
