Description

Join me on this incredible trad rock climbing trip to Les Calanques, between Marseille and Cassis, and discover the great quality rock in this stunning corner of France.

Believe it or not, you can climb here year-round. Hence, these day trips in the Calanques are ideal for those wishing to climb outside the high season.

I usually bring my clients to Les Calanques during the winter. Although it’s cold in the morning, temperature gets more comfortable during the day. We’ll be able to climb under the sun which you cannot do during the summer! I’m sure you’ll enjoy the blue skies and magnificent winter light.

Les Calanques offer a wide variety of rocks and multi pitch routes. You’ll find the best limestone rocks in the world (together with Spain) and will be able to try different styles: bouldering, slab climbing, overhang, etc. I’ll keep my program very flexible to be able to adapt it to your wishes.

It’s all about traditional climbing (or trad climbing) here in Les Calanques. This means that we’ll place all the gear we need to protect ourselves against falls. These will be removed when passage is complete.

I’m originally from Aix-en-Provence, so these rocks have been my playground since I started climbing at a very young age. I’ll take you to some of my favorite spots:

  • En-Vau: in my opinion, the most beautiful of Les Calanques.

  • Les Goudes: has incredible views.

  • Calanque du Devenson: offers a bigger challenge (6a and 6b climbing).

  • Plateau de Castelvieil: the most isolated.

Some rock climbing experience is necessary to take full advantage of these 2 days. However, I really enjoy coaching my clients and helping them become better climbers and get to the next level. So I’m sure you’ll see a big improvement by the end of the trip we do together!

I can take a maximum of 4 people on this tour to make sure I’ve got the time to take good care of everybody.

If you are interested, we could also add a hiking day to the program. That way, you’ll get to know this beautiful area a little better.

I promise the Calanques won’t disappoint you! Join me on these day trips and discover the joy of climbing in the sun, with the Mediterranean Sea as a backdrop.

Mountain Guide

Even as a kid, I knew I wanted to become a mountain guide. Growing up in Aix-en-Provence, in southern France, the Alps have been my playground since a very young age. Amazing climbing spots like the Calanques and Gorges du Verdon were just a stone throw's away from my hometown.

Eventually, I also became an architect, another long-time passion. As an architect, I lived in New York, Barcelona and Rotterdam and learned to speak fluent English and Spanish. I also met great people and had an amazing time while doing it!

I'm now back home in France and spend most of my time guiding in the Alps. I'll be happy to take you rock climbing, skiing or mountaineering to some of my favorite spots.

Max was an AMAZING guide! He was super knowledgeable and was willing to teach us new climbing techniques. Not only did I have fun climbing outdoors, but I learned how to climb better outside. I highly recommend this trip! You won´t be disappointed!

Had a great time with Max climbing at the Calanques. He picked a good route with lots of ambiance, and did a solid job leading me up it.

Me and my dad wanted to book a last minute guided rock climb in the Calanques. We came across Maxence through explore-share and he was very kind as he changed his timetable so that he could take us out at short notice. Me and my dad were a little nervous about rock climbing and Maxence very quickly put us at ease. He was friendly and warm and very encouraging when we were on the rocks. He took us to the most beautiful spot where we were the only ones climbing, and we had an amazing view of the Calanques. He took pictures for us and sent them to us afterwards. He also provided us with all the equipment that we needed and found us suitable routes to climb for our levels. We would recommend Maxence to anyone who wants to find a climbing adventure in the Calanques.
