Description

The limestone cliffs of the Calanques offer a remarkable setting for trad climbing, rising above the Mediterranean between Marseille and Cassis. On this private half-day outing, join local IFMGA guide Maxence for a focused climbing session adapted to your experience, goals, and the conditions on the day.

Having grown up near Aix-en-Provence, Maxence has been climbing in this part of southern France since he was young. He knows the Calanques well and will choose the climbing area and routes according to your level and what you would most like to work on.

The area offers a broad variety of limestone climbing, from slabs to steeper terrain. The focus of this trip is traditional climbing, where removable protection is placed while climbing and collected again as the route is completed. Previous rock climbing experience is recommended so you can make the most of the session.

Depending on your objectives and the conditions, the climbing may take place in one of the areas Maxence regularly visits in the Calanques, such as En-Vau, Les Goudes, the Calanque du Devenson, or the Plateau de Castelvieil. The exact location and program remain flexible.

The Calanques can be climbed throughout the year, with winter offering particularly pleasant conditions for climbing in the sun and enjoying the characteristic clear skies and Mediterranean light of southern France.

This half-day format provides an opportunity to discover trad climbing in the Calanques or concentrate on specific skills with an experienced local guide. If you are looking for a full day, you can check it here: Calanques guided trad climbing day trip

Mountain Guide

Even as a kid, I knew I wanted to become a mountain guide. Growing up in Aix-en-Provence, in southern France, the Alps have been my playground since a very young age. Amazing climbing spots like the Calanques and Gorges du Verdon were just a stone throw's away from my hometown.

Eventually, I also became an architect, another long-time passion. As an architect, I lived in New York, Barcelona and Rotterdam and learned to speak fluent English and Spanish. I also met great people and had an amazing time while doing it!

I'm now back home in France and spend most of my time guiding in the Alps. I'll be happy to take you rock climbing, skiing or mountaineering to some of my favorite spots.

Great day out, leanred a lot :)

Gwendolyn

Me and my partner had the goal to learn how to lead climb outside by ourselves. Within 2 days Max learned us the basics of how to safely lead climb outdoors. He knew where to take us in the area, that would and cover both our styles of climbing and would be bearable with the summer heat in France. I would recommend anyone who is looking to learn lead climbing outside or wants someone who knows the area, to book a trip with Max !
