About the guide

I am a UIAGM mountain guide, ski instructor and sports teacher and the current president of the Slovenian Mountain Guide Association.

I am still the only guide who can make a living working exclusively in Slovenia. I climb Triglav more than 25 times per year, which means I have climbed the most famous peak in my country over 200 times.

If you want to climb or ski in Slovenian mountains I am the right choice. I guide via ferrata, rock climbing, snow climbing, ice climbing, hikes, heliski, freeride skiing and ski touring.

Slovenia has good options for all of these activities, so you are welcome to take a look at my trips and find something for yourself. If you don't find anything let me know and I will see if I can help you!

I speak English. Ich sprache auch ein bischen Deutsch. Parla anche un pocho Italiano e abla tambien un po Espanol.

If I am not available to guide you, one of the super experienced guides in my team - Rok, Peter, Grega or Igor - will be your guide.

Excelent rour, great guide but it was finally Igor Gonrsko and Matja, not Mitja. Professional, serious and responsible

We are very pleased to have met Martin. He was like a father to us. Better than a father, a friend. We’ve been happy and working with a smile that Martin put in our faces. He had a good idea: invert the Triglav ski trip, because the 4° day had bad wheather Forecast. Then, first Triglav . On the last day, he proved this professional skills by guiding us through the fog by a karstic terrain, sometimes without using ski tracks. We’d be delighted to have him again and would be happy to repeat this whenever possible

Unfortunately, due to high avalanche risk, we were unable to start the Triglav traverse. Instead we enjoyed 3 day trips touring around Kranjska Gora. Mitja is a fantastic guide, going out of his way to look after us, and taking us to some great spots. On a traverse snow conditions are secondary, but for day trips I would recommend coming earlier in the season, as the snow in April was a little warm and wet even at 2400m. Slovenia is beautiful and Mitja is very highly recommended, we'll be back!

Me and my friend did 2 days guided ski tours with Mitja in March 2017. We climbed Triglav, and second day Jalovec. We are both experienced ski tourers, we decided for guided tour because Julien alps are much more technically difficult than Austrian alps where we usually go. First winter ski touring in Julien alps and first guided tour in our life. Our experience with Mitja overcome expectations. He is very well organised, experienced and confident, his approach to clients very direct, honest but friendly as well. I felt safe with him in more exposed parts of our climb, and trusted his decisions and recommendations. I learned a lot about safety in mountains in general and will go with him in future again.

The Triglav Traverse with Mitja was a highlight for me in winter 2016. We toured through fairytale like landscapes and skied fresh lines every day. I am still puzzled how little ski touring is popular in Slovenia so far, which allowed Mitja to lead us to many amazing places without running into other skiers. Coming from Switzerland I am used to crowds and busy huts on days with such great conditions – and I was very happy to have had this alternative Slovenian experience with so much peacefulness! Mitja kept a good eye on all members of our group of 4 people and went big lengths to make it an unforgettable experience for all of us.
