Highlights

This is an amazing program that combines climbing in Pigne d’Arolla and its surroundings, with some wonderful views of two iconic mountains of the Alps: Mont Blanc and Matterhorn.

Pigne d’Arolla is a Swiss 3790 m peak, laying in the Arolla Valley.  In this 5-day trip we’ll make some via ferrata around this famous valley, as well a challenging via cordata called Nendaz-Mont Fort.

We’ll also climb Rosablanche, a 3336 m peak, from where we’ll get a beautiful view of the mountains of Valais. This day we’ll also enjoy glacier trekking.

Finally, we’ll reach the summit of Pigne D’Arolla, climbing through an impressive snow terrain with many crevasses.

During the night, we’ll stay in cozy mountain huts, like the rustic Kurhaus and Cabane des Dix.

For further details, you can find a complete itinerary below this description.

This trip in the Arolla Valley is ideal for those looking for a technically easy climbing experience. In fact, it doesn’t require previous experience, although you should have a good physical condition.

Please contact me if you want to be a part of this adventure! I will be glad to show you some amazing spots in the Alps!

    Itinerary

    • Day 0Sion

Transfer from Belgium or elsewhere in Valais.

We appreciate the completely renewed and luxurious hostel for Sion. (You can stay there if you want to).

Then we’ll do an evening visit to Sion and afterwards we leave the area for our first trip.

    • Day 1Refuge de St-Laurent

In the beginning of the season we opt for the Via Ferrata of Nax. We climb there and have a picnic with a view over the Rhone Valley.

If the cable car of Siviez is open, we take it to the Col des Gentianes. We cross the Tortingletsjer and set foot on the rocks: here is the start of our via cordata.

Through technically simple rock passages we go across the Tête de Tortin (3191 m). Then, we continue downward to the Mont Fort glacier and refuge de St-Laurent (2485 m), where we overnight.

    • Day 2Kurhaus

Today we climb the Rosablanche (3336 m). We follow a mix of rocky terrain and the Grand Desert glacier to the summit, from which we get an incredible overall view of the impressive Valais mountain chain: from Mont Blanc to the Matterhorn.

After the descent we continue to Arolla. We’ll stay in the rustic Kurhaus, where we can remember our ascent and start looking forward to the next day’s schedule. (+ 980 m / -1600 m)

    • Day 3Cabane Des Dix

Today we ascend to the famous Cabane des Dix (2928 m) but first we have to overcome the hurdle of Pas de Chèvre (2855 m).

      Overnight in the cabane des Dix. (+ 1000 m / -1000 m)

    • Day 4Pigne d'Arolla / Cabane des Vignettes

The famous Pigne d’Arolla (3796 m) is the next challenge in this alpine week.

We’ll climb through an impressive snow terrain with a lot of crevasses. Then, we’ll descend to the Cabane des Vignettes that rises above the steep mountain slopes like an eagle nest.

    • Day 5Kurhaus / Return

Tonight our base camp will be the “Grand Hotel Kurhaus“, with good food, cold beer and a soothing shower.

Afterwards, we’ll take a look at the Col de l’Eveque and then reach the valley along the Arolla Glacier (+ 450 m / -1300 m).

What People are Saying about Namaste Mountain Guides

Professional guide who carefully assessed our climbing and fitness abilities to get to the top unfortunately we came down a bit too fast and I fell and broke my big toe and was unable to attempt the Mont Blanc climb which was very disappointing because I felt ready to try. We felt challenged but relatively safe all of the time, the fall was an unfortunate mistake. Jan offered us additional training between the climbs to improve our chances on Mont Blanc which we really appreciated but were unable to take advantage of. We would climb with him again.

My first experience with alpinism but 100% worth it. Because of bad weather we couldn’t ascend the Mont Blanc but the backup program saved the trip. Learned a lot and seen mighty things. Overall, enjoyed a lot, a week we will never forget.

We had a marvellous week, it matched our expectations and we had souvenirs which will never fade away. The flexibility from our program because of the bad weather, was great, each time we had a discussion about what we could do and couldn’t. Reaching the top was always the goal. Also the fact I did this with my daughter gave it an extra dimension. We enjoyed every step because we were in good shape. Everybody insisted on this, but at the end, it turned out to be an advantage.

I had a very good time and it has been a fantastic week to fulfill my dream of Mont Blanc, with extra reward of the experience of climbing Gran Paradiso, both mountains are amazing and we are blessed by very good weather. And thanks to Jan and my guide, they are always there to encourage me during the hardest moment, without them I can\'t do this.
